The weather is barely changing at the moment. An area of low pressure lies over Central Europe and is heading slowly east. There will be sunny spells in the morning, and then the cloud will thicken and cause thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening.

During the following days, we should lower our expectations of the weather! The general weather situation will not change and even more humid air masses will move into Central Europe.

Rangger Köpfl is a striking mountain located about ten kilometres west of Innsbruck. It is the most significant landmark in this hiking destination and boasts breathtaking panoramic views. Take the Peter-Anich Gondola from Oberperfuss and float up the mountain in comfort to Stiglreith, located 1,363 metres above sea level. Once at Stiglreith, you can enjoy a bite to eat at the Panoramarestaurant.

From Stiglreith, follow the pushchair friendly path for 45 minutes to Gfas, which is located 1,517 metres above sea level, past a beautiful chapel and the highest farms in Oberperfuss. Continue west into the valley. A narrow trail branches off, crossing the Finstertal stream and leading steeply uphill past the Angeralm mountain hut (1,749 m) and the Krimpenbachalm mountain hut (1,918 m), neither of which are open to the public.

The route continues along an almost flat road to Krimpenbachsattel (1,899 m), which is a wonderful col with far-reaching views of the surrounding landscapes. From there, the path leads slowly uphill to the summit of Rangger Köpfl mountain (1,939 m). From the summit cross, you can enjoy impressive panoramic views of the surrounding peaks and the Inn Valley. Continue north-east along the Alpenrosensteig trail with beautiful views of the Upper Inn Valley. The path leads slowly downhill to the rustic Rosskogelhütte mountain hut, which is a lovely place to take a break and enjoy Tyrolean delicacies accompanied by magnificent panoramic alpine views. The alpine roses bloom along this section of the route in June and July.

From the Rosskogelhütte, you can follow the road back down or take the path that follows the ski slope down to the reservoir lake and along the Ghost Trail to the starting point at Stiglreith.

Stiglreith car park (fees apply, coins only).
The road to Stiglreith is closed from 1 November until 31 March.
