La capilla data del año 1963 y está situada en la ruta circular de Axamer Lizum. La idea de la construcción de una capilla surgió durante las obras de reconversión de esta zona de pastos en una estación de esquí para la celebración de las competiciones de esquí alpino durante los Juegos Olímpicos de Invierno de 1964. La prensa especializada elogió en aquel momento el diseño moderno de la capilla Olympiakapelle, pero los habitantes la miraron con escepticismo. Más tarde su percepción fue cambiando y ahora la capilla es casi un símbolo de esta zona de esquí y de senderismo.
