Direct naast het bergstation van de Patscherkofelbaan ligt de hoogste botanische tuin van Oostenrijk. Op bijna 2.000 meter onderhoudt de universiteit Innsbruck op 1,5 hectare een groene collectie aan natuurschatten: direct gelegen aan de bosgrens, groeien edelweiß, gentiaan en alpenaurikel naast dwergstruikheide en kruidige struiken. Daartussen: exotische gebergteplanten uit de Himalaya. In juni bedekken de bloeiende alpenrozen (giftig) de Patscherkofel met oplichtende lila bergweides. Via de rondwandelweg ontsluit zich in enkele passen de veelzijdigheid van de alpiene plantensoorten uit de hele wereld.
