The panoramic tram in Innsbruck

Tram line 6

Tram line 6 takes you on a ride from Innsbruck through the small villages south of the city. The tram leisurely climbs a little way up Patscherkofel mountain and quickly reaches rural areas where small villages line the streets and cows and sheep graze in the alpine meadows all around you. As the tram leads through the shady groves, it opens up a whole new perspective of Innsbruck.

With the forest tram to Igls

The tram line has been in existence since around 1900, but the trains are not from that time. The locals also call it the "forest tram" thanks to the beautiful route. Would you like to take it on a journey to the south of Innsbruck? The start stop Bergisel is located on the hill of the same name with the ski jump. The final stop is in Igls, one of the villages at the foot of the Patscherkofel with an Olympic history.

Get to know Tyrol on the Stubai Valley tram (tram line STB)

The Stubai Valley tram (tram line STB) is a charming way of getting to know the area around Innsbruck. It leads through stunning natural surroundings and past traditional Tyrolean architecture, all of which you can enjoy at a leisurely pace because the Stubai Valley tram runs at the same speed as the normal trams. You pass colourful flowering meadows, high mountains and quiet villages west of Innsbruck such as Mutters and Natters. The final stop is in the village of Fulpmes in the Stubai Valley.

Idyllic hikes along the route

Hike along one of the many trails between Innsbruck and Fulpmes and stop at a traditional guesthouse or a mountain hut to replenish your energy levels along the way. If you get off at the Kreith-Mutters station, for example, you can hike to the charming and welcoming Kreither Alm mountain hut and then down to the Stockerhof alpine guesthouse with its wonderful views. After enjoying a bite to eat, you can explore the larch forests and flowering alpine meadows on the way to Telfes train station. From there, the Stubai Valley tram runs back to Innsbruck.

Journey times on the Stubai Valley tram

The journey to the centre of Innsbruck from Mutters and Natters takes half an hour. The journey the other way from Mutters and Natters to the final stop in Fulpmes takes about the same amount of time. From Fulpmes, you can take a bus to the Stubai Glacier. Tickets are also available from the tourist information centre in Mutters.
