A tranquil village with a long settlement history

Old farmhouses decorated with flowers and surrounded by green alpine meadows: this is Birgitz. Village life takes place around the welcoming village square. At the heart of it all is the music pavilion, which hosts various festivals and brass band concerts. There is also a small mini-golf course nearby that is popular with families. Thanks to the village's ideal location, Birgitz is also a great starting point for various hikes and bike tours.

The Rätermuseum (Raetic Museum) and Hohe Birga

"In the footsteps of the Raeti" is the motto of the popular and family-friendly sightseeing tours to the "Hohe Birga". The Raeti – a pre-Christian population who settled in the Alps – once lived in the area around Birgitz. A wooded hill north of the village is home to impressive proof of their existence: the "Hohe Birga" open-air archaeological excavation site. The excavations, located in the immediate vicinity of Innsbruck, allow visitors to experience the largest self-contained Raeti settlement in Tyrol up close. A Raetic museum on the village square also gives valuable and exciting insights into this topic.

Summer in Birgitz

A special highlight: the beautiful Birgitzer Alm mountain hut with its unique panoramic views. You can reach the hut on foot directly from the village and then it's just a stone's throw to the impressive peaks of the Kalkkögel mountain range in Axamer Lizum. If you would rather explore the area by bike, you will find numerous tips for good tours in the area and great trails at Bikepark Innsbruck in the nearby resort of Muttereralm.

Birgitz in winter

The village of Birgitz is a great winter destination thanks to its location near the ski resorts of Axamer Lizum and Muttereralm. Both of these ski areas can be reached quickly and easily on free buses. There is also a small beginners' lift right on the edge of the village but the ultimate winter hotspot is the natural toboggan run that stretches from the Birgitzer Alm mountain hut down to the valley. In top snow conditions, the run covers a distance of almost ten kilometres, making it the longest natural toboggan run in the region and an undisputed insider tip for all toboggan fans.
