El sendero Akademikersteig es un sendero forestal fácil que lleva en algo más de una hora de Götzens a Birgitz (o al revés). Punto de salida en Götzens justo debajo del supermercado M-Preis. En el tramo inicial, el sendero ofrece grandes vistas sobre las ruinas del castillo Vellenberg. El camino forestal acaba en Birgitz, luego hay que seguir la carretera dirección sur hasta el centro de la población.
Poco antes de salir del bosque, posibilidad de tomar el desvío a las excavaciones “Hohe Birga”. Se trata de un lugar muy interesante al que se llega en unos cinco minutos. Otro lugar interesante y muy recomendable de visitar, es el museo Rätermuseum situado en el centro de Birgitz.
