Cómo llegar
El señorial castillo de Ambras, situado al sureste de Innsbruck, está rodeado de un extenso parque que ofrece paseos que van desde tramos completamente llanos hasta otros, muy empinados. La entrada principal está en la parte suroeste del parque, en la carretera que lleva a Aldrans.
La parada Schloss Ambras del autobús postal 4134 está situada delante de la entrada del parque. Desde la parada Tummelplatz del tranvía nº 6 (Igler), el parque está a pocos minutos a pie por el bosque y el bus turístico Sightseer tiene una parada delante de la entrada a la parte inferior del castillo.
Hay una entrada especialmente atractiva en la parte noroeste del parque amurallado.
Para llegar al portal Schneiderhäusl (Schneidertörl) hay que bajarse en la parada Philippine-Welser-Strasse de la línea 3 del tranvía. Luego hay un agradable paseo por el idílico pueblo de Amras, luego por las calles Kirchsteig y Bichlweg, antes de cruzar la autopista por el paso subterráneo y subir unas escaleras de hormigón a mano izquierda.
El pequeño portal lleva el nombre del pabellón situado en esta entrada al parque. Se trata de los restos de la antigua iglesia Georgskirche que el archiduque Segismundo de Austria mandó construir en el siglo XV. El cercano arroyo dañó la construcción y luego fue víctima de diferentes acciones de profanación. Durante muchos años se instaló allí un sastre, pero más tarde se derribó gran parte de los restos de la iglesia. El nombre del portal – Schneidertörl – se refiere al antiguo habitante de la iglesia, el sastre (en alemán Schneider).
Si toma el camino a mano izquierda en la bifurcación, llega en pocos minutos a la capilla Votivkapelle antes de adentrarse en la parte más salvaje y romántica del parque del castillo con abruptas formaciones rocosas, pequeñas gargantas y valles, puentes de madera y un espeso bosque mixto. Tortuosos senderos, con algunos tramos muy empinados, llevan a una cascada de agua artificial o a la colina Ferdinandhügel.
Siguiendo el camino a mano derecha en la bifurcación, hay senderos que llevan al torreón Treppenturm y el jardín de estilo renacentista al sur del castillo superior. Aquí se halla el jardín Keuchgarten, llamado así por la antigua torre que servía de prisión (Keuchen), ahora desaparecida, la gruta Bacchusgrotte y, cerca del castillo inferior, la famosa fuente veneciana.
Al oeste de este complejo arquitectónico se extiende la parte del parque del castillo de Ambras paisajísticamente más tradicional, con grandes extensiones de césped con tumbonas y un gran estanque. En los alrededores acostumbran a pasearse los famosos pavos reales del castillo de Ambras, entre los que destaca el pavo de color blanco Weisskunig. (Casi) nadie se va del parque sin haber hecho una foto de estos majestuosos animales. Los caminos que bajan dirección a la cordillera Nordkette llevan de regreso al portal Schneidertörl.
