A clear sign of this is the new padel facility in Mutters, which has been fully booked every day since it opened its courts in May 2026. Whether you’re an ambitious athlete, looking for a team event for companies, clubs, or friends, or simply want to spend your free time actively, more and more sports enthusiasts around Innsbruck are picking up a racket and discovering this combination of action, tactics, and fun. But what makes this sport so special and popular? I’m going to get to the bottom of this question.

From Downtown to Padel

Just a few minutes from Innsbruck, the Alp Padel facility in Mutters awaits you. It’s easily accessible, whether by public transportation or by car: From Innsbruck Central Station, the Stubaitalbahn (STB) takes you directly to Mutters in about 30 minutes. Especially convenient: With the Innsbruck Welcome Card, you can use public transportation within the coverage area for free, allowing you to travel in a relaxed and sustainable way.

However, the Welcome Card isn’t just your free public transit ticket—you can also use it to play 2 hours of padel for free (per person) (currently valid Monday through Friday between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.; outside these hours, a small surcharge applies). You can easily pick up the vouchers for this at the tourist office in Mutters, ask directly at your restaurant, or check online.

If you prefer to travel by car, the facility is just a 15-minute drive from Innsbruck. Free parking is available right next to the padel courts, so nothing stands in the way of a spontaneous match.

How It Works – Alp Padel

You can play your matches on two high-quality outdoor courts set against the backdrop of the Tyrolean mountains. The courts can be easily reserved via the website or the Playtomic booking platform and are available daily from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. during the summer months. A special highlight: When the sun slowly disappears behind the mountains, the day is far from over. Thanks to floodlights on both courts, you can keep playing well into the evening. Perfect for a spontaneous rematch or the day’s decisive rallies.

Handy extras: Would you rather work on your technique? No problem! If you find some free time on the spur of the moment or want to focus on your strokes and precision, you can use the ball machine. As a player at Alp Padel, you can use the showers and restrooms at the adjacent Mutters Tennis Club free of charge. Afterward, the cozy seating area invites you to relax and socialize.

New to padel?

Rental rackets, balls, and grip tape are available on-site via an automated padel kiosk. Payment is contactless via debit card or mobile payment. You can rent a racket for the duration of your game by placing a deposit on your card and then return it afterward; the reserved amount will, of course, be released, and you’ll only be charged for the rental period.

Training Sessions, Community, and Events

With personalized training, group sessions, or introductory courses, you can specifically improve your game and refine your skills. Bookings and inquiries can be made conveniently via Playtomic or the WhatsApp community. Are you new to the community? Then you can find playing partners through open matches. Open matches invite you to join, or you can start your own match at your skill level in the Playtomic app. Whether in competitive or friendly mode: it’s the perfect way to meet new playing partners.

"A social sport," says owner Matthias

Matthias Nagl (28), founder of Alp Padel, explains how his passion for the sport led to the idea of opening his own padel facility in Mutters.

How did you get into padel?

Matthias: “I got into padel because of my own passion for the sport. Even after my first few matches, I was won over by the mix of dynamism, tactics, and social interaction. At the same time, I noticed that opportunities to play in Tyrol were still very limited. That’s exactly what sparked my desire to help establish padel more firmly in the region. I’m particularly excited that the sport is easy to learn and brings together people of all ages and skill levels. That’s exactly where I see padel’s great potential: a sport that connects people and is simply fun.”

How did Alp Padel come about?

Matthias: “With Alp Padel, I wanted to bring padel to the low mountain range near Innsbruck and create a place where people could gather even after playing. Right next to the Mutters Tennis Club, we’ve built a modern facility with two panoramic courts. My goal is to get locals and visitors excited about padel and, in the long term, to build a vibrant padel community with tournaments, events, and partnerships.”

What advice would you give to a beginner in padel?

Matthias: “Above all, have fun playing and focus on simple rallies at first. Over time, the rules and strategic possibilities will come naturally—that’s exactly what makes this sport so appealing.”

Thanks to the prime location right next to the swimming pool (recreation center) in Mutters, you’ll be spoiled for choice—whether to take a quick dip in the cool water or head straight for a refreshing drink. At the padel court, there are places to sit and a vending machine with a selection of chilled drinks (sodas, beer, shandy, and snacks).
