Happy Galentine’s Day!

It is finally February! The month of Valentine’s Day, flowers, candy and dinner reservations, oh my! However, I am not here to talk about Valentine’s Day. I’m here to talk about a ‘holiday’ much nearer and dearer to my heart, Galentine’s Day. You read that correctly, Galentine’s Day! February 14th is Valentine’s Day celebrating that special person in your life, romance and love. February 13th however, is Galentine’s Day, a special non-holiday celebrating your best gal pals!

Thank You, Leslie Knope!

This unofficial holiday is gaining in popularity, because let’s face it, friends are important and deserve to be celebrated! Honoring the people that are always there for you. But, where did Galentine’s Day come from? I first heard about it from one of my favorite television shows, “Parks and Recreation”. If you haven’t watched, I highly recommend you do, because the main character Leslie Knope comes up with some fantastic ideas! The “Parks and Rec” episode aired in 2010, pushing ‘ladies celebrating ladies’. Leslie Knope, played by Amy Poehler, decides to gather all her best gal pals, the day before Valentine’s Day, for waffles and cocktails.

It’s Real To Me!

It is such a widely recognized fake holiday that in America there are Galentine’s Day sales, brunch specials, gift ideas and so much more! So, who cares if it is an official holiday or not, if people recognize and celebrate it, it is real to me! It might sound cheesy, but why wouldn’t you want to celebrate your besties!?

First Stop, Brunch!

There is no right or wrong way to celebrate Galentine’s Day, but considering this is my article, here are my suggestions. The original Leslie Knope Galentine’s Day celebration was a waffle and cocktail brunch. That is exactly how I think Galentine’s Day should start, brunch.  Who doesn’t love a good brunch? For me, the first choice is Wilten Brunch & Bar, their brunch menu is epic! Sweet, savory, cocktails, mocktails, coffee. All the essentials, located in the quaint and creative Wilten. Runner up in my opinion goes to Breakfast Club, if you want to be a bit closer to the heart of the city. Their omelets are amazing and the waffles are to die for!

Treat Yo’self!

After being fed, let the pampering begin! How about a wellness day? You don’t have to look far, there are plenty of options in Innsbruck to enjoy a sauna, steam bath, pool and more. Get out of the cold and into wellness! Innsbruck has some amazing day spas, for instance Hotel Das Innsbruck located near the Marktplatz. Or maybe aDLERS both offering amazing views, saunas, pools, and the hotel works also as a day spa option!

Fancy Dinner Feeling!

Round out the day by taking your besties to dinner, Galentine’s Day style! Recently, I went with friends to Restaurant Marta, a new restaurant in the “Bögen” of Innsbruck, and I can only recommend it! Maybe you feel more like sushi, how about Sensei on the Maria-Theresien Street? How about a steak dinner, at Woodfire? There is no right answer, put your personal flare on all of it! How do your friends enjoy spending time together?

True Friends!

So, ladies, grab your besties, it’s time to celebrate friendship!
