Whether you’re a beginner, an ambitious runner, or a marathon veteran—once a year, all running enthusiasts in and around Innsbruck and Tyrol are invited to participate in the “Tirol läuft” and “Tirol läuft Women’s Run.” And as for the idea that it’s “only for women”—in reality, this athletic running event is for everyone who celebrates the sport of running. Whether you’re a beginner or a pro, male or female, a fast runner or a moderate one—people of all ages and fitness levels enjoy exercising together.

The Categories

Whether you’re a beginner, a recreational runner, or an ambitious half-marathon finisher, every participant found the right challenge at the Tirol läuft Women’s Run.

The highlight was the “Tirol läuft” Women’s Run —a 5.7-kilometer course along the Inn River—which celebrated exercise, community, and pure joy of life. The scenic route through Innsbruck provided the perfect backdrop for achieving personal goals, cheering each other on, and enjoying the event’s special atmosphere.

The program was complemented by additional races ranging from 5.7 kilometers to a half-marathon, as well as walking and relay races, which turned the two days of running into a sporting celebration for everyone.

The “Tirol läuft” race is especially fun when run as a team. Whether as a corporate event, a club activity, or a sporting outing with friends, lining up at the starting line together provides extra motivation. For the team standings, at least three runners form a team, and the three fastest individual times are added together to determine the team’s total time. At the same time, all team members are also included in the individual standings. Those who organize their group early on enjoy significant benefits.

The Route

The Tyrolean State Theater and its forecourt serve as both the start and finish areas. These locations couldn’t be more ideal, as they’re easily accessible by public transportation. The route then leads through Innsbruck’s Hofgarten to the Inn River, following its banks to the Freiburg Bridge. There, runners turn around and continue on the other side of the Inn to the Innsteig. Those who have chosen the shortest distance can begin their final sprint through the Hofgarten to the finish line right from here. All other race categories continue on the same loop.

Program

The Tirol läuft Women’s Run spanned two jam-packed days. On Friday, it was the kids’ turn first. The TT Kids’ Run wasn’t about the best or fastest time, but about who had the most fun. Kids could have a blast at the games and activities program or later with Clown Pompo.

The many food trucks and catering vans were also not to be missed. There were sweet and savory, regional and international dishes to try. With the hot temperatures, the cool drinks and refreshments were also very popular.

For the first time, the program included the lecture and panel discussion “Female Power.” This side event was dedicated exclusively to the topic of cycle-based training and served as a program highlight for many women, as well as their companions, partners, and coaches.

Eco-Friendly Travel by Public Transportation

The start and finish lines, located right in front of the Innsbruck Landestheater, are very centrally located, making it easy to get there and back by train or bus. Innsbruck’s main train station is a ten-minute walk away. If you’re coming from farther away, you can also drop off your backpack and a change of clothes (included in all starter packs). TIP: You can ride public transportation for free throughout the entire event in Innsbruck! Just show your personalized registration or race number, and nothing will stand in the way of a side trip through the alpine-urban city of Innsbruck.

A popular race for everyone

Hannah T. chose the 10-kilometer race and was especially thrilled that the refreshments during and after the race were so well organized. “It’s just nice to run together. Training alone can often be exhausting, but there are now many great running groups and events in Innsbruck. I’ve even made a few running friends along the way.”
