Still A Winter Wonderland!

Spring may have already sprung in Tyrol, but don’t go saying that too loudly! It is definitely still snowboarding weather in Kühtai
, just a little over 30 minutes outside of Innsbruck. But let’s face it, there is always snow in Kühtai and there was plenty for the very first Red Bull Rail Yard event which showcased some of the world's best snowboarders pulling tricks and stunts. I had the pleasure of attending and even got to interview the one and only Clemens Millauer.

Boxes, Rails and Chains Oh My!

The event took place from March 31 - April 2, with 3 days of tricks and jumps, music and fun. The contest area was over 300 meters with boxes, rails, chains, pipes, everything you could want to put together a truly impressive run and get as creative as possible. There was an open qualifier, giving rookies and amateurs the chance to show their skill and advance. It was thrilling to see the riders get creative and really go for it. The event was so unique to me, not only awarding the top riders, but also giving a trophy for ‘Most Creative Line’ and ‘Best Tricks’.

The One And Only Clemens Millauer!

I got the chance to chat with Olympian Clemens Millauer one of Austria’s most progressive snowboarders, an invaluable resource for shaping this event. Clemens told me, "I think the Red Bull Rail Yard and Kühtai are the perfect match. Over the last few years it has been used to comfortably end the season. Many snowboard fans meet up here and let their creativity run wild!"

Top Tips for Tyrol!

Being from Austria, I wanted to know Clemens’ take on snowboarding in the area and what makes Tyrol so special.

When asked about snowboarding in Tyrol, Clemens Millauer told me, "In general, Tyrol has a very special meaning in the snowboard freestyle world. Sport has always fascinated me, but when I first saw the Air & Style in Innsbruck, I was blown away. A few years later, I had the honor to start at this event myself. A childhood dream of mine came true. In addition, almost all snowboarders in the world spend the pre-season in Tyrol, because the mountains are already covered with plenty of snow in October/November and the training conditions are always optimal."

Besides Kühtai, Clemens gave his top picks for Snowboarding in the Tyrol, "My top 2 are the Nordkette and the StubaiZoo. The Nordkette is just incredibly central and a place that every snowboarder should see."

I'm always happy to hear tips from a professional!

No one was letting the weather hiccups get them down! Can't wait for next year!
