Patscherkofel Ski

Positive, energetic, supportive

Jule and Lilli are friends who share a love of skiing, both skilled ski instructors and want to spread that love to other women. The aim is to give women from different backgrounds access to skiing. One of the participants Vanessa even told me she is the first person in her family ever to ski! However, with their project ‘Girls Skiing’ is not just about skiing - it is about creating space for friendship, inclusion, and integration. To keep the experience personal, and also given limited resources 10 women were accepted which applied over their social media page. Spots filled up fast! 10 women, 4 dates, 1 season and no excuses! ‘’We not only want to share our enthusiasm for the sport but above all encourage women to learn in a safe space to overcome fears together and gain new skills for more inclusivity, diversity and women empowerment.’’ It really was a tight group of positive, energetic women supporting one another.

Overcoming Fears

I have to admit, I am not new to skiing. My dad took me skiing quite a bit when I was younger, so I wasn’t a beginner and I didn’t have any fear, but that was because I had a great teacher who built up my confidence in the sport and never handled me with kid gloves. However, the group is for beginners, where initial hesitation and fear were gradually overcome and everyone was able to progress at their own pace. It was an incredibly supportive environment. You don’t have to worry about embarrassing yourself, because everyone has the same goal and positivity! If you fall, get right back up and try again. It was so cool to join these ladies and watch their development! I even got the chance to accompany two advanced skiers from the very top all the way down - showing just how amazing this program is!

Die Boerse rents it all

Before hitting the slopes, I stopped by Die Boerse to rent all my gear. In the German language if one cannot write a ö then you replace it with oe, this is not the case with Die Boerse, I spelled it correctly, I assure you. Die Boerse is a one stop shop for all your winter rental, service and purchasing needs, located right by the Triumphal Arch and perfectly across from the daily free ski bus! They were absolutely fantastic and made sure I had everything I needed for a great day on the mountain. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced skier, Die Boerse is the perfect place to get a full setup or just pieces, with high-quality equipment and helpful, knowledgeable staff. It's such a relief to have everything sorted out in one place, leaving you free to focus on skiing and enjoying the experience. Skis, snowboards, boots, poles… all the way down to helmets and jackets, seriously they rent everything and the staff couldn’t be nicer!

From Bunny Hill to Black Diamond

Everyone’s progress was a little different, but the pride was universal! Whether you were Aisha overcoming her fear and finally making it down the bunny hill, or her daughter Bayan skiing with me from the very top to the very bottom, even conquering a black diamond by mistake (sorry! I took a wrong turn but you did amazing!) this program is epic!

Searching for support

Right now it is Jule, Lilli and Sophie teaching these girls with some sponsors doing their part. Peak Performance providing some gear, hand warmers and gloves from Zanier, the ski tickets being rebated and a few others, but they can and want to do more! The more sponsors and support they get the more girls they can teach so if anyone knows anyone that wants to support - reach out on instagram @girlsskiing and spread the word!
