Riding the mountain carts at Muttereralm is about as close as you can get to being in a real life game of Mario Kart!

Watch: Epic Innsbruck takes on the Muttereralm mountain carts

Welcome to the first episode of the 2020 season of Epic Innsbruck! Slightly delayed due to the events of the last few months and the global corona crisis, but it’s a real corker: charging down Muttereralm in mountain carts feels a lot like playing mario kart but in real life!

The Location: Muttereralm

In this edition of Epic Innsbruck, we headed back to the same place we filmed Epic Innsbruck 19-01: Snowbiking – Muttereralm.

In winter Muttereralm is a ski area, but in the summer it’s home to Bikepark Innsbruck and is the location for the fabled Crankworx mountain bike festival. Muttereralm is also great for hiking and has a lovely view down the valley towards Innsbruck – the bottom lift station is less than 20 minutes away from the city centre by car, and buses are also available.

Mountain Carts

If you don’t want to bike or hike, you have another option: Mountain Carts

The race is on!

If you are a fan of Nintendo’s Mario Kart and always wondered what it be like in real life, then you’ve come to the right place!

Three of my mates Hannes, Remo and The Don each got into the driver’s seat of these 3-wheeled crazy carts and epic-ly raced down the 5km track from top to bottom.

These trikes are not to be messed with, as they pick up a lot of speed on the straights. Even experienced carters can get caught out, and The Don took quite a tumble as can be seen in the video. Helmets are a must!

The design of the cart allows the driver to get some epic drifting with some practice.

This is definitely one of my favourite things to do on the mountain. If you like it fast and want to drift in a trike then get yourself to Muttereralm!

Take it slow

You can also take it slow too. Kids can also have a go tpp, but must be accompanied by an adult if under 16 years old. The minimum age is 10 years and minimum height is 150cm.

Details of how to get there can be found on the Muttereralm website.
