Cómo llegar
El Jardín Imperial de Innsbruck ofrece diferentes opciones para paseos cortos y más largos a la sombra de los imponentes árboles de hoja caduca y coníferas procedentes de todos los rincones del mundo. Es un parque que invita a pasear, recuperar fuerzas y relajarse en las casi diez hectáreas del recinto situado muy cerca del centro histórico de Innsbruck. El Jardín Imperial tiene varios accesos, y como mínimo uno en cada punto cardinal.
Los que pasean por este parque lo hacen siguiendo caminos con mucha historia. Los inicios del jardín se remontan a más de 600 años. Creado primero como jardín de ribera, el emperador Fernando II lo convirtió en un jardín de estilo renacentista. Después de una posterior adaptación al gusto barroco, se transformó a su forma actual, la de un jardín inglés. En los últimos 150 años, el jardín no ha sufrido grandes cambios y en el año 2001 fue declarado monumento de interés nacional.
Uno de los caminos por el jardín sigue el cerco que lo rodea. Los más observadores verán a medio camino un pequeño jardín de rocalla situado en el lado oeste del muro con una gran variedad de plantas alpinas como saxifraga (Steinbrech), potentilla (Fingerkraut) o linaria purpurea (Leinkraut). Diversos caminos llevan al pabellón del Jardín Imperial situado en el centro del parque. En el transcurso de las últimas obras de saneamiento del edificio se descubrieron unas delicadas pinturas murales en el interior que ahora lucen con su antiguo esplendor. Al lado del pabellón hay un idílico estanque con nenúfares y otras plantas acuáticas.
En la parte sureste del parque hay un espectacular catalpa común o árbol indio (Trompetenbaum) de más de 120 años. A pesar de su antigüedad, no es el árbol de más edad del parque. Este honor le pertenece al abeto de la familia de la pícea conocida como Maria-Theresien-Fichte, situado al norte del pabellón, de unos imponentes 260 años.
Todos los caminos están flanqueados por majestuosos árboles, arbustos autóctonos y exóticos y – los meses de verano – de coloridos arriates de flores. En los últimos años se ha permitido a los visitantes pisar el cuidado césped del parque. Antaño fueron los rebaños de ovejas quienes mantenían las hierbas a raya, ahora el césped se corta con maquinaria especial.
Quienes quieren dar un paseo más largo por el parque, pueden visitar el “pequeño Jardín Imperial”, también conocido como el jardín del gobernador (Gouverneursgarten) – situado en la calle Rennweg. Al lado opuesto de la calle se encuentra el jardín inglés donde se han ubicado también los jugadores de ajedrez que antes se reunían en el Jardín Imperial. Desde este punto se puede continuar caminando por la orilla del río Inn dirección Saggen o dirección al centro de la ciudad y a Mariahilf.
