Sunshine, bright blue skies, fresh snow, mountains as far as the eye can see - and an event with my favorite "stars". I was able to experience all this and much more on March 28 at the Hoadl Haus in the Axamer Lizum at the second edition of „Podcast am Berg“ experience. For everyone who wasn't there: You really missed out. But don't worry - you'll be there next year. You can listen to the live podcast episodes you missed at your leisure - and I'll take you with me for now and show you what else was going on.
Perfect match: podcasts & mountains
„Podcast am Berg“ combines two of my favorite things - as the name suggests: podcasts and mountains. Things are often loud at home. With two boys, there's always a lot going on. If I want to switch off from it for a moment, I put on my headphones, start my favorite podcast and disappear - at least until someone wants something from me again. And you just have to love the mountains, don't you? In short: „Podcast am Berg“ combines nature, culture and inspiration. On two stages in the Hoadl Haus you could watch your favorite podcasters live at work. Normally you only have the voices in your ears - it's quite something else when you can watch them do it (and not just on screen).
Dream day, dream weather, dream backdrop - this was the 2nd edition of "Podcast am Berg"
The weather god must also listen to podcasts - at least the sun was shining.
Dream day, full slopes, mega rush
Saturday, March 28, 2026, was an absolute dream day: perfect weather, perfect snow conditions and perhaps one of the last opportunities to go skiing again this winter. There were also two events taking place in the Axamer Lizum took place: the International German Championships and, of course, „Podcast am Berg“. Any normal person would have known that the crowds would be huge - so it was best to get up there as early as possible. At least if you wanted a parking space. Well, I'm probably not one of the "normal" people. And so I had to park quite far away from the valley station of the Axamer Lizum cable car and take a long walk. That wouldn't have been so bad - if I hadn't missed a few really cool podcasts.
Journey through a winter wonderland!
On 28.03.2026, the Axamer Lizum was the place to be: "Podcast on the mountain" and the International German Championships took place here.
Finally at the top - and in the middle of the action
But what do we learn from this? Firstly: Next time, be there earlier. Or - and this would be even smarter - use public transport! In the end, I did make it up there after all. When I arrived at Hoadl Haus, the festival was already in full swing and the atmosphere was great. On stage, the „Bergfreundinnen“ the audience had made themselves comfortable on the deckchairs in front of it and were listening through wireless headphones. Of course, I grabbed them straight away - and the podcast fun began.
Podcast, mountains - and cocktails! What a perfect mix!
On 28.03.2026, the Hoadl House in the Axamer Lizum was firmly in the hands of podcast lovers.
Podcast am Berg: A colorful potpourri for the ears
I listen to podcasts in pretty much every situation in life: while cooking, cleaning, on the train, jogging or sometimes even falling asleep. Depending on my mood, I listen to very different topics - whether True Crime, news, gossip or simply relaxed chat podcasts. Much like my Spotify playlist, the program at „Podcast am Berg“ was also a colourful mix - and there was something for everyone.
In the middle instead of just being there
It's a very special feeling when you listen to podcasts not just for yourself, but together with many other podcast enthusiasts. When you laugh together, are amazed and sometimes shocked. When you are involved by the hosts, can ask questions and are suddenly very close to them. Personally, I'm a big fan of the podcast „Liebreizend Extreme“ by Sarah and Stefan Ager. For the few of you who don't know this podcast yet: absolute recommendation! The two of them talk about important topics such as feminism and equality, share their everyday life as parents of twins with us, take us with them on their travels and talk openly about their struggles to juggle family and work. And sometimes we can even listen to them arguing - or let's say: lovingly discussing. What makes them so special? Their down-to-earth, honest manner - and the fact that you often recognize parallels to your own life. That's what makes them so relatable.
It's something completely different when you're involved live in your favorite podcast, can express your opinion and ask questions!
Austria's favorite podcast
„Liebreizend Extreme“ is not only my favorite podcast, but apparently also that of the whole of Austria - after all, it was awarded the Ö3 Podcast Award 2026 this year. The Ö3 community entered a total of 1,300 Austrian podcasts into the race, and „Liebreizend Extreme“ emerged as the winner. Absolutely deserved! Stefan Ager is not only a podcaster himself, but also one of the brains behind „Podcast am Berg“. Together with Simon Varges and his team, he created this event - a great platform for listeners, podcasters and anyone who wants to become one.

From the idea to the microphone
How many of you have ever thought about starting your own podcast? Well, I have - I admit it. And maybe I will at some point. In any case, during the lunch break of "Podcast am Berg", I attended the workshop by wepodit, a B2B podcast agency from Linz - and learned a lot of new things. The most important thing I took away and would like to pass on to anyone who wants to start their own podcast is: Start small, but start! A sentence that can probably be applied to most situations in life - because the best idea is useless if you don't put it into practice. And yes, I know I sound a bit like a self-help guru right now. But even so, we can all take note of this sentence.
The wepodit podcast workshop was great - perfect for anyone who wants to start a podcast themselves. Pictured here: Eva Waldenberger (right) and Lisa Marie Hedrich.
There was a great prize for the best podcast idea at the wepodit workshop: two pilot episodes of wepodit!
New favorite podcasts to listen to
And last but not least, I'd like to leave you with a few podcast recommendations - because maybe you're like me and are always on the lookout for new ones. I've discovered some really good formats at „Podcast am Berg“ that are definitely going on my playlist: If you like True Crime, I can recommend „Verbrechen hautnah“ with Luca and Laura Di Stefano - they have such a pleasant way of talking to each other that you just love listening to them. If you prefer fun, you should listen to „Austrian Kiwi Podcast“ listen in. However, I also have a bit of bad news: the live episode of "Podcast am Berg" was their last - but you can of course still listen to all previous episodes. And for all the athletes and alpinists among you: Be sure to listen to the „Bergfreundinnen“ in. And last but not least: A real must-listen is of course our Innsbruck Video Podcast.
Newly discovered thanks to "Podcast am Berg": the Bergfreundinnen - if you love the mountains as much as I do, you really have to listen to them.
These were just three of many great podcasts that you could discover at "Podcast am Berg" - here you have them all at a glance. There's guaranteed to be something for everyone! So, all that's left for me to do now is wish you a happy Easter holiday - hopefully you can relax and have lots of time for your favorite podcasts.
