Kühtai is one of the most popular ski resorts in the Innsbruck ski community and for good reason. Families in particular appreciate the large selection of slopes with different levels of difficulty. From beginners to ambitious carvers and experienced freeriders, there is something for everyone here.
Winter paradise not far from Innsbruck: Kühtai
Just over an hour by direct bus (daily between November and April) from Innsbruck and you are already in the middle of a winter paradise. If you prefer to drive yourself, the high-altitude ski resort is around 40 kilometers to the west and can be easily reached by car.
The altitude is a real highlight: at over 2,020 meters above sea level, Kühtai is considered to be particularly snow-sure. Thanks to the favorable exposure with sunny and shady slopes, you will find the best piste conditions here at any time of day and throughout the winter.
Two ski areas, one ski pass: With the Kühtai-Hochoetz ski pass, you have access to two ski areas with a total of 90 kilometers of pistes and 27 lifts. A free ski bus shuttle conveniently connects Kühtai and Hochoetz.
Away from the ski vacation
In addition to classic skiing, you can also experience other things in Kühtai. Whether you want to indulge in culinary delights, do some sport or simply enjoy the mountains - you could spend your winter vacation in Kühtai for longer than a week.
- Over 20 cozy bars, restaurants and ski huts
- The KPark with freestyle area and SnowCross
- The KidsPark for children and fun park newbies
- Cross-country ski trails for classic cross-country skiing and skating
- A floodlit toboggan run with its own ascent track
- Secluded winter hiking trails and opportunities for snowshoeing
The refreshment stop: compulsory program with a pleasure factor
As much as you can let off steam on the slopes, the refreshment stops in Kühtai are just as tempting. A fluffy Kaiserschmarrn, a warming dumpling soup or a hot chocolate with a shot of rum are simply a must for me.
If you want to plan your perfect stop-off in advance or reserve a table for the family, you can find useful information about the restaurants and mountain huts here. My personal tip: Don't leave immediately after your last turn. Let the day come to a relaxed end in one of the small and fine après-ski bars in the village and enjoy the last rays of sunshine to the full.

Freeriding in Kühtai: powder with a panorama
Kühtai offers around 400 hectares of freeride terrain for all those who like it a little more powdery. Varied descents lead from 2,520 down to 2,020 meters.
The alpine meadow base ensures that you will often find good conditions even when there is little snow. Nevertheless, the following applies: if you leave the secured pistes, you are skiing in open terrain - "ride with brains" is the motto here. Make sure you check the current avalanche, wind and weather situation before you set off.

A very special atmosphere awaits you at night skiing in Kühtai. From December 10, 2025 to April 18, 2026, you can make your turns in the floodlights every Wednesday and Saturday from 19:00 to 21:30.
The Hochalterbahn and the runway are open, and the "Zum Kaiser Maximilian" hut also invites you to stop for a bite to eat in the evening. The free ski bus takes you there and back from Innsbruck on Wednesdays.

Depending on the season, a day ticket for adults costs between €47 and €62. If you buy your ticket online in advance, you save 5%!
All bus connections can be found on the VVT website.
