From Mountains to Beach

Never underestimate Innsbruck’s ability to turn an ordinary weekend into something special. From 4–7 June 2026, the Innsbruck Beach Event returned to Marktplatz, transforming the heart of the city into one of the most spectacular beach volleyball venues in Europe. And yes, despite being surrounded by mountains rather than oceans, Innsbruck managed to become a beach town for the weekend. Heaps of sand were brought into the city centre, creating a professional beach volleyball arena against a backdrop that few sporting events can match: the Nordkette mountains, colourful riverside houses and the Inn River all framing the action.

World-Class Sport in the City Centre

As part of the win2day Beach Volleyball Tour PRO Masters, the event attracted top Austrian players and international teams, delivering four days of high-level competition. Whether you were a dedicated volleyball fan or simply passing by, it was hard not to get drawn in by the atmosphere. For those wanting a closer view, grandstand tickets provided front-row access to all the action. And there was plenty to watch. Powerful serves, incredible dives and fast-paced rallies kept the crowd entertained throughout the weekend. Even if you knew nothing about beach volleyball before arriving, chances are you left as a fan.

More Than Just Volleyball

One of the best things about the BeachEvent is how accessible it is. The event village and standing areas were free to enjoy, allowing locals and visitors to wander in, grab a drink, watch some matches and soak up the summer vibes. Unbound Coffee kept caffeine levels high, while food stalls and refreshment stands made it easy to settle in for an afternoon of sport. Music pumped through the venue all day, commentators kept the energy high and the atmosphere felt more like a summer festival than a traditional tournament. As the sun dropped behind the mountains, DJs took over for the popular Sundowner Parties, turning Marktplatz into one of the city's liveliest meeting spots.

A Perfect Innsbruck Weekend

Perhaps the most impressive part is how naturally the event fits into Innsbruck. A few weeks ago, this same square was hosting concerts. This weekend, it was a beach volleyball stadium. Next week, it will return to everyday life.

That ability to transform public spaces and create memorable experiences is part of what makes Innsbruck such a unique destination. For four days, the city became the capital of beach volleyball in the Alps, combining world-class sport, summer vibes and unforgettable scenery in one incredible package.

The sand may now be gone, but the atmosphere, excitement and memories of another fantastic BeachEvent will stick around long after the final whistle
