Kletterzentrum Innsbruck’s three-in-one climbing center is the “Stacy’s mom” of climbing gyms; it’s got it going on. Outdoor, indoor and bouldering; all in one. In most cities, you’d have to drive around to at least two different gyms to experience what Kletterzentrum Innsbruck offers in one place.

Kletterzentrum Innsbruck Facilities

Climbers can enjoy 6,000 square meters of indoor, outdoor and bouldering routes. 35,000 holds offer something for every experience level. The facilities at Kletteerzentrum Innsbruck include an elevator for para-climbers, kids climbing room, an area dedicated to beginners, conference room, bar/ lounge area and a gym specifically dedicated to a climber’s strength training needs. Unlike the Tivoli climbing gym, Kletterzentrum Innsbruck will also include a private training room for the Austrian National Climbing team, allowing them to train without distractions. Such distractions as me getting the national team to stop their training so I can snap this photo.

The upgrade to Innsbruck’s climbing center continues to solidify the city as a top-class destination for climbers, sports enthusiasts and international competitions. Blocmasters Boulder World Cup will be relocating from Marktplatz to this facility.

Opening Dates and Membership Options

Reini and his team are working long hours every day, ensuring that the climbing center will be ready by the opening day on May 15th. Climbers can get a day pass, or buy 10 session packs. Membership options are also available for monthly, half year or full year. The operating hours will be 9 A.M. to 11 P.M.

Sports have always been a big part of my life, but I didn’t discover climbing until living in Innsbruck. It’s as much mental as it is physical. The moment you put your hands on a wall, you’re trying to solve a 3D puzzle while contorting yourself into positions you’d only experience during a game of twister, except now you have a harness on your crotch and you’re horizontal. It’s a complete body workout, you’ll be sore in places you didn’t know you had muscles and good luck trying to ride that bike home afterwards.

The only thing I really don’t like at climbing is the fact that you can’t be good right away. It takes patience and practice. You can bet that I’ll be at Kletterzentrum Innsbruck once it’s open for the public, I’ll be the one yelling things like; “Why is this hold even here?”, “How is this fun?”, “Is someone trying to prank people with this route?”. Yeah, good times.
