For me, summertime is yoga time. Of course, you can practice yoga all year round, but especially during the warmer months, there are so many wonderful places outside of yoga studios where you can get into Downward Dog or Warrior pose. Whether in a park, high up on a mountain, or in a pasture among grazing ponies —there are numerous special places around Innsbruck where practicing yoga in the midst of nature becomes a truly unique experience.

No more excuses!

Let’s be honest: Sometimes we come up with all kinds of excuses to skip working out. The right class is too expensive, already full—or both. But with “Bewegt im Park,” those excuses don’t fly. Between June and September, free exercise classes led by professional instructors take place in public parks and other open spaces. The best part: Participation is easy, free, and requires no registration.

“Bewegt im Park” offers a wide variety of sports. But since this post is dedicated to yoga, I’d like to introduce you to“Morning Yoga in Rapoldi Park.”Every Tuesday at 9:00 a.m., yoga enthusiasts gather with their mats on the lawn in Rapoldi Park in Innsbruck, right next to the duck pond, and practice together under the open sky.

Yoga for Everyone—Free and Easy

And for all those who are just as sensitive to heat as I am, I can put your minds at ease: First, it’s still pleasant at 9:00 a.m., and second, the sessions take place in the shade of the trees. Dana Reiff, the yoga instructor, really made sure that everyone got what they needed. The asanas weren’t particularly challenging—but they were still tiring. Those who wanted more, however, could dive deeper and take on additional challenges. So, in the truest sense of the word, yoga for everyone: free, accessible, and the perfect introduction for anyone who wants to give this wonderful practice a try.

Morning Yoga in Rapoldipark

The class is open to everyone—regardless of age or experience. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced yogi, everyone is welcome here. I have to admit, quite honestly: I was surprised by how many people could find time for a yoga class on a Tuesday morning. But it was absolutely wonderful to see that yoga really is for everyone. I especially loved seeing the moms and dads who came with their babies. The babies were either sleeping peacefully in their strollers or happily kicking their legs on the mat, doing their very own version of yoga. But older adults, students, and people of all ages in between were there, too.

A One-of-a-Kind Experience: Pony Yoga in Oberperfuss

I’ve been doing yoga for quite a while now and have practiced with different instructors and in all sorts of places. But there’s one thing I’d never experienced before: yoga with animals —more specifically, with ponies. When I stumbled upon it by chance on Instagram, I knew right away: I have to try this. To be honest, I couldn’t picture what it would be like at all. Do you do yoga with the ponies? Or even on top of them? The answer is: neither. You practice “regular” yoga right out in the paddock. The only difference: ponies are peacefully grazing all around you. They’re just doing their own thing while the yogis do theirs. And that’s exactly what makes it so special.

Where Everyday Life Takes a Break

VeitenhofOberperfuss is incredibly beautiful in its own right. On top of that, you get to enjoy a breathtaking view of the Inn Valley. Yoga is relaxing in and of itself, but these adorable mini Shetland ponies radiate a very special kind of calm. If you can’t unwind here, then I don’t know where else you could. I’ll admit: The day I got to take part in the pony yoga class wasn’t exactly my best—quite the opposite, in fact. But during that class on the mat, among the ponies, with that wonderful view and the calm demeanor of yoga instructor Kathrin von Sauter, I was able to leave everyday life behind for a moment and simply forget about the stress.

Yoga at the Mutters Swimming Pool

For anyone who, for reasons completely beyond my comprehension, isn’t into ponies and horses but would still like to enjoy a yoga class with Kathrin, there will be a class every Saturday at 8:00 a.m. at the Mutters Swimming Pool in August 2026 Mutters . Especially during this heat wave, the swimming pools are often packed. That makes it all the more wonderful to start the day with a peaceful yoga class and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere before the crowds arrive. Kathrin also teaches regularly at ku__la. It’s best to check out her Instagram profile —you’ll find all the details there.

High Up

Another special yoga highlight awaits you in August: a yoga hike with an overnight stay in a mountain hut in the beautiful Simmeringalm. This unique experience is organized by Stefanie Vettorazzi-Randl. She is a certified mountain hiking guide and yoga instructor, runs her own yoga studio Kraftquelle in Telfs and regularly offers special yoga events—such as yoga at the idyllic Piburger Lake followed by breakfast, or yoga with llamas on Flaurlinger Mountain. You can, of course, find all the important information and offers on her websiteand Instagram channel.

Yoga Hike to the Simmeringalm

But back to the yoga hike: What could be better than getting together with other yoga and nature enthusiasts, enjoying the mountains together, practicing yoga in the evening and in the morning, and climbing a peak together? I practice yoga regularly with Steffie, and her calm demeanor is simply one-of-a-kind. With her, yoga always feels truly relaxing. After every yoga class, I feel grounded and a little more deeply connected to myself. That’s why I highly recommend it: Do something good for yourselves and book a class with her—ideally, the yoga hike to the Simmeringalm right away.

Even More Yoga

But there are so many other opportunities in and around Innsbruck to practice yoga outside the studio: for example, yoga in the vineyard at the Romasi-Hattingerberg Winery or on Innsbruck’s local mountain, the Patscherkofel. Yoga at the Rangger Köpfl is an experience for the soul, mind, and body—completely hassle-free, free of charge, and no registration required, but with a breathtaking view of the Kalkkögel Mountains! If yoga isn’t your thing, there are also great Pilates options, such as the Pilates brunch on the rooftop terrace of loft9 in the new RAIQA building (though all sessions there are already fully booked—but you should definitely mark this down for next year).

Namaste

I hope I was able to give yogis—or those who want to become yogis—a few helpful tips—it’s definitely worth giving it a try! And finally, I’d like to share a quote from my yoga teacher, Steffie:“Yoga begins when you leave this class and return to life and your everyday routine.”
