For me, there’s hardly anything better than heading out into the mountains—when time allows. The first rays of sunshine on the peaks, the fresh mountain air, and the breathtaking views make every hike a special experience. And the best part: with the current temperatures, it’s especially pleasant at higher elevations. Of course, my family and our four-legged friend usually join me on my outings. There are countless opportunities to explore nature around Innsbruck—from leisurely family hikes to more challenging summit tours.

Well-prepared
Over time, I’ve learned that good preparation is just as important as the destination itself. If you have the right gear with you, you can enjoy the hike more relaxed and are also prepared for unexpected situations—especially when you’re traveling with children.
A comfortable backpack with enough space for everything you’ll need along the way is an absolute must. My trusty hiking companion features a hip belt, padded shoulder straps, good back ventilation, and an integrated rain cover. These details make a big difference, especially on longer hikes.
In addition to my snack box and water bottle, my backpack has room for rain gear, a change of clothes, a headband, a cap, and a first-aid kit.
To strengthen
Drinks, granola bars for a quick energy boost, and a small snack always have a permanent spot in my backpack. Because when I’m hiking with kids, I know that after half an hour at the latest, they’ll be asking for their first sip of water and something to eat.
I also always bring a small first-aid kit with blister bandages and bandages, as well as a trash bag. After all, everything you take up the mountain should also come back down to the valley. Depending on the hike, I also pack hiking poles and a lightweight microfiber towel—handy for wiping away sweat, but also for drying off the kids’ wet feet after crossing a stream.
Well-equipped: The Must Haves
I place particular importance on good footwear that provides a secure grip and a comfortable walking experience. When it comes to clothing, I also opt for lightweight and functional materials. In the summer, I usually wear shorts and a performance shirt, and I pack a change of clothes in my backpack just in case.
Since the weather in the mountains can often change quickly, I also always carry a rain or wind jacket, an extra warm layer, and a headband. Sun protection is also essential: sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat are part of my basic gear, regardless of the season.
My Gear Tip
When it comes to my gear, I pay special attention to quality, functionality, and sustainability. That’s why I like to rely on products from Vaude, but of course there are many manufacturers that offer great equipment. The brand has accompanied me on many trips and impresses with its well-designed backpacks, weatherproof clothing, and durable materials. I especially appreciate that Vaude places great emphasis on environmentally friendly production and the responsible use of resources—values that fit perfectly with a nature-loving mountain lifestyle.
My Conclusion
If you start out well-prepared, you can enjoy the impressive mountain scenery around Innsbruck even more leisurely. With the right gear in your backpack, nothing stands in the way of a great day on the mountain—except perhaps the question of where your next hike should take you.
