Red Bull invaded Nordkette with an event that highlighted Innsbruck’s young, vibrant and adventurous side. The Red Bull Can Bob Race is the snow version of Red Bull’s famous Soap Box Races.
Participants gathered at the Nordkettebahn’s Congress Station to register teams and fuel up on Red Bulls. Registration was followed by and epic warm up routine organized by the Ugly Skiing Day crew. Once the Taurine was pumping through everyone’s veins, teams headed up to Seegrube to get the action started.

Cloud 9 Igloo Bar
Teams building Can Bobs at Cloud 9 Igloo Bar
Cloud 9 Igloo Bar served as the construction zone where teams built their chariots. Everyone came dressed to impress and equipped with saws, hammers, drills, sanders, space drinks, portable stoves and Weißwurst. After a couple of hours of diligent work and a few more cases of Red Bull consumption, teams produced very impressive Can Bobs. Everyone took turns presenting their rides to spectators and then trekked up the slope for the starting line, where they would face each other in head-to-head races.

My favorite, by far, was the Bavarian themed crew that brought Weizenbier and Weißwurst.
They really stuck to their theme
Red Bull Can Bob Race
Teams competed head-to-head until a winner remained
Teams raced down the slope in head-to-head battles until Starlight Express emerged as the victor. All participants received sweet trophy plaques made by Krater Fajan.

My Performance
Getting ejected from my Can Bob
My performance was abysmal. Being ejected from my Can Bob during both my heats made me realize that I should have put more effort into building it. While rolling down the slope in Lederhosen board shorts and snowboarding boots, I realized that I made some poor choices that day. Next year will be a different story as I plan on training all year for the event.
