Golf Mecca
Tyrol is known for extreme sports: snowboarding, skiing, white water rafting, paragliding. But one sport is often overlooked, golf. The Innsbruck region is a hidden Mecca for Golf! Not many people know this about me, but in High School, I was on the golf team! I wasn’t very good, but I don’t think that is necessarily the point! Golf is something I always enjoyed. It is relaxing, but still sport, challenging, and fun. A great way to get some fresh air. Tyrol is often overlooked as a golfing vacation destination, but it shouldn’t be. From Lans to Rinn, Igls to the Mieminger Plateau, let’s get into it, shall we?

Golfclub Innsbruck-Igls
Just a little ways up the mountain from Innsbruck you’ll find the Golfclub Innsbruck-Igls. Together they are the 18-hole championship course in Rinn, and the 9-hole parkland course in Lans. Two very different courses only a short distance apart. Both guests and club members can enjoy every hole. Both courses are barrier-free, use sustainable irrigation, and are beautifully bound to the nature of the region. Don’t forget to stay after for a meal, not only known for the course, they are also very well known for their cuisine. This year is the perfect time to plan a visit, as the 18-hole course in Rinn has been renovated, redesigned to be more modern, making it an absolute MUST on your golf tour of Tyrol! Now is the time!

Olympia Golf Igls
Also in Igls, a hop skip and a jump from the Golfclub Innsbruck-Igls, is the Olympia Golf Igls. Family friendly, relaxed atmosphere with the motto ‘Golfing with Friends.’ Here is where you fit in from the get go! A round is easily played in 90 minutes and fits perfectly into your day. Also, with an eye for sustainability, this club hosts their own bees, providing their own honey, and prides itself on being plastic free, so whip out your wooden tees and have a whack! Once you’ve worked up an appetite, take a visit to their restaurant, Chef Günther Heumader is a maestro. Make sure you plan a game for Friday, so you can enjoy mussel Friday, every week, serving up fresh mussels.

Golfpark Mieminger Plateau
Should you want to make a trip further outside of Innsbruck, make sure you plan a round of golf at the Golfpark Mieminger Plateau. Only about a 45-minute drive from Innsbruck, this Golfpark bolsters an alpine paradise with 27 fairways. Green as far as the eye can see, at the foot of the Mieminger mountain range, it’s gorgeous! Take in nature, the mountains, beautifully manicured fairways and greens. Can’t get much more peaceful, undisturbed from noise, just you and the course. Perfect for every skill level! The 18-hole champion course challenges with long, wide holes, or hit the shorter 9-hole park course, perfect for golfers with less experience.

In 2007, Laura completed her studies at an American university and applied for the Fulbright programme to be an English teacher in Germany or Austria. The wisest decision at this point: Austria! And the rest, as they say, is history.
