You always want your foodie exploration to focus on local dishes when traveling, but sometimes you need to satisfy a nagging craving. Fortunately, Innsbruck’s food scene covers flavors from around the world. With over 400 restaurants on TripAdvisor and many yet to be listed, there’s something for everyone.

Where to find Asian food in Innsbruck

Innsbruck’s Asian community has brought together a great mix of culinary delights. Asian restaurants in Innsbruck offer sushi, curries, pho, and so much more. Without further ado, here 3 standouts:

1. For Korean food – Miso

This is a hidden gem definitely worth seeking out if you’re looking for a flavorful meal with attentive service. One of the newest additions to Innsbruck’s foodie scene and I hope they are here for many years to come.

The husband and wife team work diligently while finding the time to make you feel like a welcome guest in their home.

The restaurant is hidden away on Seilergasse, one of the alleys in the old town. The place caught my eye because it reminded me of the tiny restaurants in L.A.’s Koreatown. I peeked through the glass doors and was greeted with a gentle smile from the owner. I wasn’t hungry that day, but I couldn’t resist going inside for tea and miso. A few days later I returned on my own and then again with my wife to try the mains. Everything I’ve had there was phenomenal.

The attentive service makes it easy to fall in love with this cozy restaurant, but the food is so good that it could be served from a hole in the wall and you would still want to return over and over. The flavors are authentic and uncompromising to accommodate the local palate. If you want authentic flavor, you need not look further. I’ve had three of their four dishes and have no idea why I haven’t been back for the last dish. It’s common for restaurants to come and go in the blink of an eye, but I hope this place stands the test of time.

I definitely recommend making reservations because the seating is limited and it is getting quite popular.

2. For Vietnamese food – Nguyen’s

Nguyen’s is a well-established restaurant in Vienna, and recently opened its doors in Innsbruck too. They’ve made quite the splash since arriving in town. I’ve visited on two occasions; the food and service have definitely improved since opening. I visited looking for their new menu items, but the staff weren’t aware of any. I ended up ordering the fried duck with veggies. The skin was crunchy while the meat kept lots of moisture. A sweet brown sauce provided a great balance in flavors. The portion was surprisingly large, especially after summer rolls as a starter.

On my first visit I ordered a bowl of their Pho. Mixed veggies, flank steak and rice noodles in a rich and aromatic broth. No herbs, spice or lemon was served with it but that wasn’t a deal-breaker. The Banh Canh Bo was also tasty.

The restaurant is centrally located at Marktplatz making it very easy to find for visitors looking to try different flavors during their stay in Innsbruck.

3. For Japanese/Thai food – Oishi

This is a go-to local favorite. They serve a mix of Asian dishes, ranging from Thai to Japanese. Despite the extensive menu, I cannot talk myself into trying anything other than the Pad Thai and Duck in Red Curry. Maybe one day, but I doubt it. I’ve heard the sushi is some of the best in Innsbruck, but I can’t confirm.

You might get lucky and find a table if you arrive early, but they are usually fully booked for dinner

This is another restaurant that serves dishes without adapting to the local taste. It’s so authentic that you may find some ingredients you’ve never seen before; like finger root. It is always busy so make a reservation!

Crispy Fried Duck in Curry

The service here is also top-notch. If you mention that you like spice, they will bring out a secret rack of spice jars that will surely add a kick to your meal. The spice is quite pleasant. It doesn’t set your mouth on fire, it heats you from the inside and makes you sweat without making you feel pain. I usually avoid the heat because my mouth is a bit sensitive to the burning sensation associated with spicy food, but at this restaurant, I pile it on until I look like I’m sitting at an Aufguss.

Whether visiting or living in Innsbruck, I definitely recommend exploring the food scene here as it is a bit underrated compared to major cities in Europe.
