A relaxed brunch and breakfast with children? Sometimes it sounds like a dream - but it's not that far away. There are wonderful places in and around Innsbruck where parents can take a deep breath, relax and enjoy themselves, while children who no longer want to sit at the table can keep themselves occupied and have fun. I am delighted to present my favorites for a relaxed breakfast with children.
Family favorite for a relaxed breakfast: Ruetz-Backhaus Kematen
Let's start with the Ruetz bakery in Kematen. We've been coming here since my son was a baby - and for good reason. Especially with smaller children (and especially with my wild rascals) I was often worried about being too loud and disturbing others. But that's not an issue at Ruetz-Backhaus. There are so many families here that it really doesn't bother anyone if things get a little livelier. A big plus is the indoor play area, which is clearly visible through a glass wall. So you can have a relaxed breakfast while the little ones play. Mine loved building towers, castles, caves and even spaceships with the building blocks. In summer, of course, it's also great to sit outside. The children are well catered for here too. There is a small playground, which I think is particularly important, separated from the parking lot by a hedge.
Even more space to let off steam
And if the small playground is too boring, there is a larger one nearby that is also exciting for older children. Although the playground at the sports field does not belong to Bäcker Ruetz, it is only a stone's throw away. There are climbing frames, slides and even a beach volleyball court. A special highlight - especially in summer and for the little ones - is the sand and water facility for splashing and splashing around. My tip: Simply pick up a breakfast to go from the Ruetz bakery and then head off to the "big" playground.
And for all those for whom the playground directly in front of the Ruetz bakery is too small: there is a much larger one nearby.
Baker's breakfast in a class of its own
I almost forgot the most important thing: the breakfast itself. What's on offer at the Ruetz bakery? I would say that bakery fans in particular will be happy here. Of course you can also order eggs, but as befits a real baker, the focus is on bread and sweet pastries. You can find the entire range on the Bäcker Ruetz website. My tip: the "Bäcker Ruetz breakfast". With coffee, tea or hot chocolate (to catch up), two oven-fresh pastries of your choice and three spreads (butter, jam, Nutella or cheese spread). And best of all: the hot drinks can be easily refilled - perfect for a loooong, relaxed breakfast.
City breakfast for the family: Bäcker Ruetz Mariahilfpark
We stay at Bäcker Ruetz, but change the location. From Kematen we head to Innsbruck, more precisely to Mariahilf. Here you'll find a Ruetz branch on the Inn promenade with a lovely little playground. I often met up with other mothers here too: chatting, drinking coffee, eating pretzels and watching the children play. Perfect for an uncomplicated breakfast with small children - in the middle of the city.
The Ruetz bakery sells a wide variety of rolls and bread, including savory toppings, of course. But I am and always will be a sweet tooth and am particularly happy about muffins, snails and the like.
Breakfast Club - breakfast on Landhausplatz
You will also find the Breakfast Club in Innsbruck - one of the restaurants that has been around for years. At first glance, it may not seem family-friendly. It's rather small, and when it's busy (which is often the case), it can quickly become cramped - especially with a baby carriage. Why do I still recommend it? It's simple: when the weather is nice, you can sit outside on Landhausplatz. And if you manage to get a seat there (so make sure you reserve one!), it's also really relaxed with children. Because if they get bored and don't feel like sitting anymore, they can simply whizz around Landhausplatz on their (balance) bikes.

Child-friendly and perfect for running around: the outdoor area of the Breakfast Club on Landhausplatz.
On the menu, you'll find everything a brunch heart desires: classic breakfast with bread, sausage and cheese, sweet or savory spreads, but also omelettes in all variations, waffles, French toast or muesli. Everything is really delicious - and perfect if you are looking for a typical brunch place and are happy for your children to dash around the Landhausplatz on their own while you eat, chat and enjoy.
Waffles: a brunch classic for young and old
The skate park on Landhausplatz is also a cool course for children with balance bikes.
Early bird: the early bird catches the worm
We leave Innsbruck again and head to the Oberland, to Telfs. Here you will find the Early Bird - what a delightful name for an equally delightful breakfast place. Like the Breakfast Club, this is a typical brunch restaurant that specializes in the most important meal of the day. I've already had the pleasure of reporting on Early Bird(here). But what I definitely don't want to withhold from you and why I'm mentioning it again in this post: there's a little play corner for younger visitors! It's really nicely designed and very attentive - it makes brunching out more relaxed for everyone: children, parents and other guests.
The Early Bird serves really, really tasty breakfast delicacies.
Whether savory or sweet - everyone gets their money's worth here.
The Early Bird is really cozy, the staff is friendly and the most important thing: it tastes good!
And of course there's plenty for the little ones too. There's a small but nice play corner in the Early Bird.
Summer feeling, cycling shorts and a mega breakfast - Crazy Eddy
And last but not least, I would like to introduce you to a restaurant that, in my opinion, stands for pure summer feeling: the Crazy Eddy in Silz, right on the Innstrand. It used to be known as a party location, but after the renovation, it has a completely new concept: today it has become a popular destination for families and day-trippers. For my family and me, it's the perfect destination after a bike ride. I think many parents will know that if you have a cool destination in mind, it's much easier to get the kids moving.
And Crazy Eddy really is a highlight - especially in summer. It combines a beach bar, children's paradise, snack station and breakfast restaurant in one place. A hearty breakfast is particularly fun here: while you sit and relax and let your gaze wander between the water and the mountains, the little ones have plenty of space to play and let off steam. The facilities include a slide, a sandpit, a beach volleyball court and a large lawn.
Gourmet breakfast for the family
Important to know: The gourmet breakfast is available from Wednesday to Sunday from 9:00 to 11:00 - and only with advance reservation. This can be easily booked online via the Crazy Eddy homepage, where you can also view the menu. You can look forward to a wide selection of bread, butter, jam, fruit and vegetables as well as hearty options such as ham, salami, Vienna sausage and salmon spread. Alternatively, there is also a vegetarian option with cheese, brie, spreads and a small yogurt with muesli and fruit. Vegan options are even available on request.
There are several breakfast and brunch options in and around Innsbruck - and some really good ones (take a look here)!!! But it's not always so easy to find the right places with children. So I hope I've been able to give you a few tips and some inspiration for your next family outing.
