Bike & Hike to Flaurlinger Alm and Taxer See - early summer in the Stubai Alps
This tour combines sporting activity, scenic diversity and tranquil nature experiences. The starting point is the small hamlet of Schwaighof on the Flaurlingberg at around 900 m above sea level - a quiet spot above the Inn Valley, which is the ideal starting point for a bike & hike tour to the Flaurling Alm and the Taxer See lake Flaurlinger Alm and on to the Taxer See forms.
By bike to the Flaurlinger Alm
From Schwaighof, a well-maintained forest road leads uphill in several hairpin bends through the forest. After around six km and about 700 meters in altitude, you reach the Flaurlinger Alm at around 1,614 m, which is open in the summer months. The Alm is located at the foot of the Hocheder and offers a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains as well as an inviting atmosphere for a rest. Here you can enjoy regional dishes and fortify yourself for the next section.
Hike to the Taxer See
Shortly before the alpine pasture, the hiking trail begins in the direction of Taxer See. The alpine roses begin to bloom at higher altitudes in June and color the mountain slopes a delicate pink - an impressive contrast to the still sparse vegetation in the upper regions.
The trail climbs steadily, first through the forest and then across open pastures where cows graze, while further up you will encounter sheep grazing in the barren landscape of the high mountains.
During the ascent, wide views open up of the Hocheder, the neighboring Sonnkarköpfland down into the Inn Valley, where the Hohe Munde towers imposingly into the heights.
After around 2-2.5 hours you finally reach the Taxer See at around 2,280 m above sea level. On my tour, the lake was still partially frozen - an impressive sight in the middle of early summer. When there is no wind, the surrounding mountain landscape is impressively reflected on the smooth surface of the water - an almost surreal sight that makes time stand still for a moment.
The way back
The way back is the same: first on foot to the mountain pasture, then by bike back to Schwaighof. The descent is fast and great fun on the well-maintained forest road.
Conclusion
The bike & hike tour to Flaurlinger Alm and Taxer See is a particularly scenic undertaking - ideal for anyone looking to enjoy nature, exercise and tranquillity. The combination of blooming alpine roses, peaceful grazing animals and the partly still frozen, mirror-smooth Taxer See makes this tour a real experience.
Tip: Start early - the weather can change quickly, especially at higher altitudes.
