Tai Chi in the park

A Peaceful Start to Your Week

Every Monday at 8 AM, something quietly powerful takes place in the heart of Innsbruck: a free Tai Chi session in Rapoldi Park, open to everyone – no exceptions! If you’re looking for a way to start your week balanced, calm, mindful you’re in the right place. It’s more than just exercise – it’s a ritual that connects movement, nature, and community.

Balancing both worlds

The idea came from Matthias Hofmann and Laurin Pöschl who enjoy Tai Chi and wanted to share it with the community. The name Laurin Pöschl might sound familiar, he is not only a certified physiotherapist, but also a professional MMA fighter with an impressive résumé. He began his MMA career with a total knockout victory in 2019 and continues to compete professionally, recently fighting in events like INNFERNO Fighting Championship. Laurin balances the intensity of the octagon with the calm discipline of traditional martial arts.

His personal martial arts journey includes karate, kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu – and of course, Tai Chi. His deep knowledge of biomechanics and body awareness makes him an excellent guide through the subtle but powerful movements of Tai Chi. But don’t expect a fight in the park – quite the opposite. Laurin’s Monday morning Tai Chi sessions are all about gentle movement, mindful breathing, and setting a peaceful tone for the week ahead.

Nature, Community and Calm

Arrive a little early, and you’ll be greeted not only by smiling, familiar faces – but also by the gentle stillness of Rapoldi Park itself. The session takes place near the pond, where ducks and even the occasional crane may be watching quietly as the group gathers. It’s these little details – the rustle of leaves, the morning light, the calm water – that make this experience so special. As one participant put it: “Make visible the little things that are invisible.”

Every class begins with a gentle warm-up to loosen the joints and quiet the mind. Laurin walks among the group, offering subtle adjustments and guidance – down to the shape of your hands or the angle of your posture. No matter your level, you’ll feel supported. Some participants don’t speak German – no problem. Laurin switches to English ensuring that everyone can follow along. The group was so friendly and welcoming!

Built for Everyone

The idea for this public class began as a conversation between two friends: why not share something so grounding with more people? And it has grown into a peaceful community tradition. Whether you're a summer hiker seeking balance in your stride, someone using new muscle groups and wanting to stretch differently, or just curious to try something new – this class meets you where you are.

No registration, no pressure – just bring comfortable clothes and an open mind. The group is diverse, warm, and welcoming. Strangers become familiar faces. Laurin sees these mornings as the perfect counterbalance to his MMA training. It’s his own way of starting the week grounded, and he hopes more people will discover the joy in this blend of strength and serenity. He says it best: “It’s a great way to start the day – connected to nature, calm, and moving your body.” And given the stress of most day jobs, I couldn’t agree more.

What are you waiting for?

So grab a coffee to-go, put on some comfy clothes, and give your Monday morning a peaceful upgrade. Tai Chi in Rapoldi Park is waiting for you, just across the grass, next to the pond, under the careful guidance of a fighter who knows when it’s time to slow down. What are you waiting for? This is your sign to join.
