Tired of the same 90s hotel interiors? Then a design hotel will be just up your street! Combining quirky style with quality service, a design hotel gives you an individual holiday experience, and one that you certainly won't forget in a hurry.

Luckily for you, Innsbruck is home to several fabulous design hotels, from minimalist chic to lavishly stylish. Here are five of our favourites to book for your next trip.

1. Hotel Nala

Located in Wilten, the hippest corner of Innsbruck, the Hotel Nala was one of the city's very first design hotels. Its concept is simple: each room is individual and each room is gorgeous. Examples include the "Cinema" room, which features a giant screen and projector for cosy nights in with a movie, as well as the intricately tiled bathroom in the "Mosaic" room. If you really want to try something different then we suggest you give the "Climb Up" room a go: with an elevated bed that you have to climb up to each night, you can really bring that mountaineering feeling back to your hotel each night.

2. Hotel Weißes Kreuz

Most hotels in Innsbruck's Old Town tend to verge towards tradition rather than trendiness. But not the Weißes Kreuz. This centuries-old hotel was completely redesigned a couple of years ago and is now one of the most chic establishments in town. With rooms ranging from luxurious suites to the self-proclaimed "Broom Cupboard" room, there is accommodation to suit all tastes (and wallets). Also recommended is the hotel's chic "Blaue Brigitte" bar on the sixth floor, which offers quirky cocktails and amazing views of the city's skyscape.

3. Loomz Living

Not strictly a design hotel but rather design apartments, Loomz Living is the new kid on the block. Their look is more minimalist, with clean lines, white furniture and plenty of natural light giving the apartments a calm and relaxing vibe. The self check-in system means you can arrive at any time of the day and there is even a small garden for catching the evening sunshine. Oh, and you can even bring your dog!

4. Faktorei

With just 12 exquisitely designed rooms, the Faktorei is a true boutique hotel. In a beautiful riverside location and just a stone's throw from the Old Town, the hotel's design combines original features (such as the ornate wooden ceilings) with modern furnishings and great attention to detail. The cafe downstairs is open to both hotel guests and the general public, and offers a fabulous breakfast with local bread, cheese and juice.

5. Weißes Rößl

If you're looking for something grander, then the Weißes Rössl could be for you. Also located in the Old Town, this historic hotel has been completely refurbished and now offers stylish yet comfortable design rooms. The king-size beds will almost swallow you up whole and each room comes with at least one squishy armchair or sofa for relaxing in. Many of the rooms also come with extra sofa beds, making them a good option for families.
