In summer/autumn 2021, the new alpine thriller "Grenzgänger - Mord in den Alpen" was filmed in Innsbruck. The team of the blog had the opportunity to talk with the main actor and director and I may present the new series here in advance.

By the way, at the end of this article you can win tickets for the premiere in Innsbruck!

What is it about?

In the new series, we can look forward to fantastic Innsbruck locations and a gripping story. Tom Falk, played by Jochen Matschke, is the chief inspector in a special unit of the Innsbruck police. He has made it his mission to find the so-called "Crossbow Murderer" and avenge the death of his beloved Paula... His breakneck approach not only violates every police protocol, it also puts his own life in danger - and his brother Sebastian (played by Peter Fieseler) to despair. For he too, as head of the special unit, is on the lookout for the serial killer.

When Tom learns during an undercover operation in the drug milieu that his colleagues are on the heels of the perpetrator at the same time, he doesn't hesitate for long and throws himself into the ongoing police operation regardless of losses. The situation on the mountain escalates and the murderer apparently dies. But then a new lead puts the case in a different light..

JOCHEN, WHAT WAS IT LIKE FOR YOU TO BE IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA IN INNSBRUCK?

I have to be honest, I haven't seen that much of Innsbruck yet... but what I have seen I think is great. I was especially a lot at the Hafelekar! I've never been that high before, because I'm not the great hiker or great climber. And once I was eating in the evening in the old town and I like it very much! I hope we keep shooting so I can see a bit more of Innsbruck.

WAS THIS YOUR FIRST TIME IN INNSBRUCK AND DID YOU HAVE A CHANCE TO GET TO KNOW THE CITY BETTER ON NON-SHOOTING DAYS?

This is my first time in Innsbruck, I was only here once two weeks before shooting started to practice climbing.

On my last day off I was on the Hafelekar... shooting the trailer for TV. If Saturday or Sunday is free, I usually go home to Munich to do laundry.

WHAT IS IT LIKE FOR YOU AS A CITY KID TO BE IN THE HIGH MOUNTAINS? WHAT DO THE MOUNTAINS DO TO YOU?

I find that some views of the Hafelekar or from the mid station look as if they weren't real. It's so extreme that sometimes I can't believe it's not a photo wallpaper. It's just that sometimes the sea and the beach are missing

RALPH POLINSKI IN CONVERSATION

For me, the Innsbruck region is ideal for an action-packed crime novel because it is so varied. Because you can play with the two sides of the coin: the beauty of the mountains as well as the danger, the beauty of the city, the picturesque, as well as the darkness of the city. It's actually an ideal playground for us.

WERE THERE ANY DIFFICULTIES DURING FILMING? THE WEATHER IN THE MOUNTAINS, FOR EXAMPLE?

We were really lucky with our timing. We went straight to the mountains for the first two weeks, because we were warned that it could be tight with the first snow. After our first day of shooting in the high mountains, it started snowing. It was relatively smooth in the mountains, went well.

IS THIS YOUR FIRST TIME IN INNSBRUCK?

It's my first time in Innsbruck, I'm really excited, not only as a filmmaker, but also for me as a private person, it's a great experience to get to know the different sides of Innsbruck. Not only the picturesque, old Innsbruck but also the modern Innsbruck and of course the landscape. The nature around it is of course fascinating for someone who is not from the alpine region. Again and again.

WILL YOU VISIT INNSBRUCK AGAIN?

For sure.

The entire interview is now also available online on the Youtube channel of Innsbruck Tourism. Take a look!
