Flat S*cks kicks off the season with the Girls Flow Camp
Shared downhill passion
The 2025 bike season has officially kicked off and you can once again see numerous women around Innsbruck who share a passion: Two wheels, fast downhills and a good mood.
The seven-strong Flat S*cks girls' group was also out and about on the opening weekend of the Bikepark Mutters. The Girls Flow Camp, organized by women for women, was fully booked and for good reason: bike guide Livia, who has been organizing bike camps for women for four years now, knows how important it is to create space for female bikers on male-dominated trails.
I was there on one of the two weekend days and was not only able to learn a lot about riding technique, braking and bike handling, but also experience the great atmosphere in the group. I even made a few new friends under Livia's relaxed group leadership. A weekend that was fun all round!
Riding technique and handling
After a short get-to-know-you session to create an initial group feeling, we first went to the parking lot to get into the groove. There we started with basic riding exercises such as one-handed riding, correct braking technique and targeted eye tracking. This allowed everyone to get to know their own bike better and develop a feel for its behavior.
The first trails
Hungry for fast and flowing descents, we finally hit the first trails! The girls were able to put their newly acquired know-how into practice straight away - from the right eye position to the optimum stance and arm position. And lo and behold, many of them immediately noticed how much easier and safer riding suddenly felt. Livia really kept an eye on every hand and gave us valuable tips and tricks along the way. Small corrections - big effect!
Shortly around midday, we took the gondola towards Mutterer Alm for a short break and refreshment.
Applying skills and pushing boundaries
From there, we went straight into the first longer trail, category "blue", the easiest category of 3 (blue, red, black - like on the ski slopes). Roots, stones and narrow Berms (= in downhill slang this means elevated, often artificially created bends with sloping side walls) were suddenly no longer obstacles, but could be skillfully mastered.
Despite the newly acquired skills, there was still the odd challenge. After all, just because you know how to master roots and stones or read a trail correctly doesn't mean that your head will always follow suit. Therefore, as always: everything can, nothing must. No pressure, no stress - not even from behind. On the trails, we take each other into consideration - everyone rides at their own pace.
Of course, we wanted to develop further - so we also ventured onto more challenging trails. Livia was on hand at the tricky key points to support us with specific tips on bike handling. With her help, some of us were able to surpass ourselves, push our limits and try out new things.
The Flat Sucks Girls Flow Camp not only in Innsbruck on the Mutterer Alm
The aim of the two-day Girls Flow Camp is to achieve greater safety on the bike and therefore simply have more fun on the trails. Among other things through:
- Balance
- Basic position and riding behavior
- Approach technique
- Braking techniques
- Obstacles and steps
- small jumps
- Repair workshop
But you won't just find Livia and the Flat S*cks team on the bike in Innsbruck. The ladies are also shredding at Ötztal and Kützbühel. For more advanced bikers, Flat S*cks also offers an enduro camp in Nauders on the Reschen Pass and at Krobplatz.
You can find more information about the mountain bike women's camps and other sporting adventures, such as ski touring, freeride or avalanche courses here.
The right bike from the Boerse
Die Boerse provided me with a stylish Specialized Single Speed Bike for the day. It not only looked good, but also looked great on the trail. In addition to the bike, I was also able to borrow all the protective equipment there: Helmet, gloves and arm and leg protectors - all in top condition.
For your own needs, you will find the rental and store directly at the valley station of Muttereralmbahn - perfect for anyone who spontaneously feels like a legendary bike park day (bike reservation recommended). A big thank you to the team and especially to Flo for his expert advice! With a well-tuned bike, the whole thing is twice as much fun.
By the way: You can also find Boerse in the middle of Innsbruck. Here you'll find equipment for many sports from biking to skiing.
