Hiking in Winter

By now, we all know that when we say Innsbruck, we mean the epicenter of Winter Wonderland; for more than one reasons. One of them is that it provides access to more than one (awesome) destinations for ski, snowboard, tobogganing and plenty other activities. That’s in the winter season. The one we’re in now. Nevertheless, it’s geological position also provides endless square kilometers of natural beauty, perfect to explore, discover and captivate. For me this means, go hiking on a mountain while it’s covered with snow. Mind you, this was the first time I’ve ever did something like that so I went fully prepared. This means informing people about my whereabouts, checking my equipment and have enough food and water with me. Safety first! My goal was initially to reach to Salfeinssee, which is (usually in the summer) a small mountain pond on the summit of Salfeins. This hiking route is located about 20-25 minutes outside Innsbruck and it’s accessible by bus and car. The only difference is that by car, you can park right on start of the path. It takes about 90 to 120 minutes to reach the top (from the parking lot), yet that depends on the hiker (I know people who do this in 60 minutes). But enough of me talking, play the video!

Even though I didn’t reach the top that day, I took it really slow in order to take it all in. Walking on snow can be loads of fun, especially if you keep it slow and steady. Making photographs and operating a couple of video cameras while on your own, can take some time. Therefore I definitely recommend to bring a friend or two with you, so you can share the experience.
