Völs Parish Church

In 1966/67, the architect Josef Lackner created a new church centre for the community of Völs in the northern part of the old village centre. The building design is well thought out and also well worth a visit from an architectural perspective. The clear lines of its sculpted structure are consistent throughout the design of both the building’s exterior and interior, with the arrangement of the different functional areas inside the church reflecting the architectural structure of the external walls. Sculptural arrangements can also be seen in the furniture designed by Josef Lackner, for example the altar table, the ambo, the priest's seat and the benches surrounding the altar platform. In 1987, the large panel painting depicting the Way of the Cross by Ernst Trawöger was installed in the church. During the Advent and Christmas period, the church displays a special highlight that is well worth a visit, namely a large nativity scene that was built in oriental style by the local nativity scene association in 1997 and took more than 1000 hours to create.
