Today I’m introducing you to four restaurants in the region that are perfect for just that. They not only stand out for their great food but also offer wonderful spots to sit outside and dine in the fresh air. 

The Isserwirt, the Nattererboden, the Mellauner Hof and the Gasthof Stern not only offer beautiful outdoor dining areas but also a unique atmosphere with a breathtaking panoramic view of the Tyrolean mountains. Of course, culinary delights are a must. That’s why I’m sharing a special house specialty from each inn. So you can look forward not only to a cozy outdoor dining area with a breathtaking mountain panorama, but also to culinary recommendations that set each inn apart. 

Just a few minutes above Innsbruck lies the Isserwirt in the idyllic village of Lans. As soon as you arrive, you can feel the relaxed atmosphere, and the cozy outdoor dining area invites you to leave the stresses of everyday life behind for a while. Surrounded by beautiful scenery, it’s the perfect place to combine good food with nature. Right next to the outdoor dining area is a playground, which also makes the “ Isserwirt ” a wonderful destination for families.

I especially appreciate that they place a strong emphasis on regional ingredients. Many of the ingredients used come directly from the region, ensuring authentic, high-quality cuisine with a Tyrolean flair.

The house’s dining recommendation: veal loin steak with jumbo shrimp and herb butter. The combination of tender veal, juicy jumbo shrimp, and aromatic herb butter makes this dish a special treat—prepared with regional ingredients and great attention to detail.

For me, the “ Nattererboden ” is one of those places where you instantly feel at peace. Nestled in nature and surrounded by meadows and forests, the large outdoor dining area invites you to leave the stresses of everyday life behind. Here, you can relax, enjoy the fresh mountain air, and take your time savoring good food—without any rush.

A special highlight is “Martina’s Farm, ” the visitor farm right on the inn’s grounds. There’s plenty to discover here, especially for families with children. Getting up close and personal with the animals makes the visit a wonderful outing for young and old alike and ensures that a cozy meal can be perfectly combined with an experience of nature.

I particularly appreciate the combination of regional cuisine and high-quality ingredients. The cozy atmosphere makes the “ Nattererboden ” a wonderful destination for families, couples, or anyone who enjoys spending time in nature.

House recommendation: “Bauernbratl” made from the farm’s own Mangalitza woolly pigs. The meat comes from the farm’s own animals and impresses with its exceptionally juicy flavor. A traditional dish that delightfully combines regional ingredients with authentic Tyrolean cuisine.

For me, the “ Mellauner Hof ” in Pettnau is a place where history and hospitality come together in a special way. As soon as you walk in, you can feel the traditional charm of the establishment, while the cozy outdoor dining area invites you to linger. Especially on warm summer days, the large, old walnut tree is a real eye-catcher. It provides pleasant shade and turns the outdoor dining area into a wonderfully peaceful spot to enjoy good food and a magnificent view.

I especially love the relaxed atmosphere, which makes the “ Mellauner Hof ” an ideal spot for a delightful lunch or a cozy evening. Here, the focus is on regional ingredients, traditional cuisine, and warm hospitality—exactly what I appreciate about a genuine Tyrolean inn.

The house’s dining recommendation: the Original “ Zwiebelrostbraten.” Tenderly pan-seared beef, crispy fried onions, and a rich sauce make this classic a real highlight. A traditional dish that fits perfectly with the cozy tavern cuisine and is an absolute must-try during your visit.

For me, the Stern Inn is a wonderful place to combine good food, a cozy atmosphere, and time with the family. The lovingly designed outdoor dining area invites you to relax while the kids let off steam at the playground. This way, the little ones can play and explore while you enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and the view of the Tyrolean mountains.

I especially like that “local” isn’t just a buzzword here—it’s a way of life. True to the motto „Butz und Stingl“ great importance is placed on using as many parts of a food item as possible. This conscious and sustainable approach is also reflected in the kitchen, where high-quality, locally sourced ingredients are prepared with great care.

The house’s dining recommendation: the apple strudel made according to Grandma Adele ’s recipe. With its delicate, homemade flavor and traditional preparation, it’s the perfect way to end an enjoyable visit—a piece of Tyrolean baking tradition you shouldn’t miss.

After visiting these four taverns, one thing stands out above all else: the warm hospitality. At every single one, I was greeted with exceptional friendliness and received excellent service. For me, it’s precisely this personal atmosphere that makes for a successful visit to a tavern.
