Night skiing in Kühtai

Who has experienced them, these clear, cold winter nights in the high mountains? Maybe even under a full moon? A perfect time to go to Kühtai for night skiing there. Twice a week some slopes are open even after sunset.

It was just such a beautiful cold winter day when I decided to go skiing in the evening in Kühtai. Already during the drive from Innsbruck I enjoyed the winter landscape. The beautiful little mountaineering villages of the Sellrain Valley already cut a fine figure in this winter idyll.

By car in a little more than half an hour or with the free ski bus you can reach the Kühtai well from Innsbruck. Parking is plentiful, the ski bus stops right by the lift. Since I appreciate the stress-free journey, I recommend you to take the ski bus. Then a beer, "Jagatee" (tea with shot) or mulled wine is also allowed at the hut stop.

The bus leaves from Innsbruck main station at 18:30 and brings you back to Innsbruck from Kühtai at 22:05. Perfectly coordinated with the time of night skiing.

Every Wednesday and Saturday, skiers and snowboarders get their money's worth on the brightly lit slopes. In each case from 19:30 to 22:00 you can enjoy the evening winter sports fun. Open is the Hochalterbahn, a fast 4-seater chairlift with storm hood and the Startbahn, a short chairlift for practicing. The Hochalterbahn even takes you up to a breathtaking 2,520 meters above sea level.

The 2.6-kilometer-long valley run is well lit and also perfectly groomed. With joy I set my carving turns down into the valley. The full moonlight makes the whole thing even more special. The snow on the surrounding mountains reflects the moonlight and the mountains shine in the dark. A breathtaking experience.

The Kaiser Max hut right next to the slope is open. Here you can enjoy a fine hut stop and strengthen yourself with good food and drinks. I can especially recommend the Kaspressknödel.

If skiing is not enough for you, you can also try the illuminated cross-country ski trail near the Längental reservoir or the night toboggan run. This leads below the dam wall from the Graf-Ferdinand-Haus on 2.5 kilometers illuminated into the valley.

Tickets for night skiing in Kühtai cost 18 euros for adults in January 2022. Seniors pay 15 euros, young people 13 euros and children go skiing for 9 euros in the evening. Tickets are available at the Hochalterbahn ticket office. Currently, 2G proof is required. The Verbund cards such as Freizeitticket are valid, the TirolSnowCard is not.

Optimal if you already had something planned or worked during the day to do sports in the fresh high mountain air. Night skiing and dinner at the hut have a special charm, especially on bright moonlit nights. Getting there is easy and environmentally friendly with the free ski bus. For me every winter again and again a must!
