Patronal festivals are held in many Tyrolean towns and villages to celebrate the patron saint of the local church. They often involve local musicians and ceremonial marksmen. St Nicholas is the patron saint of the village of Mutters and his feast day is celebrated on 6 December with a highly unusual custom: "Bumsaschießen", the firing of a special local cannon.
