Film Festival at the Waldhüttl
Learn more
A film festival in the great outdoors that does away with all the pomp and show, instead winning people over with its warmth and openness. The Filmfestival im Waldhüttl—fiwa for short—doesn’t put the films at the center of the action, but rather the people who watch them and the people who make them. It’s a chance for everyone to get to know one another. There is no better place for this getting-to-know-you experience than the Waldhüttl on the outskirts of Innsbruck, which stands for community, exchange, support, mutual learning, tolerance, and acceptance. This makes the Waldhüttl a special place of well-being and fiwa a feel-good festival.
The Waldhüttl is home to people who have been pushed to the margins of society and are fighting for a sense of belonging. They are the inspiration, the source of ideas, and the contributors to fiwa. And this year, they’re getting extra support from Vienna: The Initiative Minderheit, in cooperation with medea production, is coming to Innsbruck for a guest performance. The film “That We Carry Their Voices Forward | Minority Struggles. Activism and Memory” will be screened. It is about young people who—just like the residents of the Waldhüttl—advocate for equal rights and participation.
Together with the Waldhüttl residents, including many Sinti and Roma, a space is created where film, music, and conversation are understood as catalysts for social change. How do we want to live together as a diverse society? Whose voices must be heard to shape the future together? And how can we amplify and carry these voices forward?
