From the car park, head north-east and continue past the tennis courts to the Birkenberg Church. The hike then takes you west along the Bergwachtsteig trail, through the Föhrenwald forest and past the scouts' hut. After crossing the bridge over the Arzbergklamm gorge, the path is paved and heads uphill for around 50 metres, before turning right at the small cliff face and rejoining the Bergwachtsteig trail. Follow the trail to the district of Wasserwaal and then continue downhill from there along the paved road. At the bend, turn right, follow the road until after the last houses and then take the forest road to Gasthaus Lehen.
