Learn more
A short, family-friendly mountain tour starting from the Kemater Alm mountain hut with unique views of the impressive Kalkkögel mountain range the whole way. The route follows a forest road that leads along a stream towards the Adolf Pichler Hütte mountain hut. After walking for about 15 minutes, a hiking trail branches off to the left and leads across lush alpine meadows in gently rising hairpin bends up to the Papstkreuz cross. From there, you get stunning panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and the Kemater Alm down below. The hike back to the starting point follows the same route. When you get back to the hut, it is possible to enjoy a break with a bite to eat.
The Papstkreuz cross was built here in the Senders Valley in 1988 to commemorate Pope John Paul II's visit to Austria and Tyrol.
