Under the title ‘Imperial Resonances’, 17 outstanding artists are presenting their works in a unique interplay between time-honoured architectural grandeur and modern, individual expression.
As curator DI Emil Kranewitter emphasises in his foreword, the exhibition fosters an unparalleled dialogue between the historic splendour of the Hofburg and the vibrant energy of contemporary art. As guests in these historic premises, which are managed by the Austrian Palace Administration, the artists transform the foyer into a lively space for discourse on current social and cultural issues. The works on display – including paintings, sculptures and mixed-media pieces – shed light on the constant interplay between collective heritage, profound change and bold visions of the future.
A highlight of the exhibition, unique in Europe, is the participatory painting installation ‘Mikizzaner Philharmonic’. By creatively integrating real string and plucked instruments – such as violins, violas and guitars – into vibrantly coloured compositions, this project translates the irrepressible dynamism of an orchestra onto a purely visual plane. This installation symbolises the core concept of the exhibition: art as an orchestral resonance between space, time and human expressiveness.
‘Imperial Resonances’ is a clear affirmation of the transformative power of culture and invites visitors to sense the invisible threads linking the past and the present, and to reposition themselves within the echoes of history. The project was initiated by Ing. Michaela Lukmann, MA (Arthena Maxx), the founder and curator of the Mikizzaner platform.
