This lovely lake hike takes you to the beautiful Hundstalsee lake with its "Apollontempel" (Temple of Apollo).

From the Bergbahnen Oberperfuss lift car park, take the gondola up to Stiglreith and then the second gondola up to Sulzstich. From there, follow the road until you come to the last bend below the Rosskogelhütte mountain hut. At this point, you can already see the Krimpenbachalm mounatin hut off in the distance. Turn off onto the trail towards Krimpenbachsattel, which is a col set at an altitude of 1,899 metres above sea level. Pass through the gate and follow the Schützensteig trail into the Hundstal Valley. When you come to a shepherd's stable, the path joins a trail leading up from the Inzinger Alm mountain hut. Follow this trail as it leads left up a steep slope and into a large basin where you'll see a hunting lodge set in a prime location. Another steep slope then takes you up to the Hundstalsee lake. From there, you can either go left or right around the lake to the "Apollontempel" (Temple of Apollo). This is a lovely spot for a break, in a wide bowl between the Peider Spitze and Weissstein peaks.

The story behind this piece of natural stone art: In August 1986, the two artists Heinz Triendl and Robert Tribus started to build a work of art made entirely of natural rock at an altitude of 2,300 metres above sea level in the Rosskogel area near Oberperfuss. The work of art is an ecologically and aesthetically innovative piece that is intended to represent the connection between nature & humans, art & humans and art & nature. The "Apollontempel", as the piece is known, is made entirely of rocks from the area, which are stacked without any binding agent. (Author Ernst Aigner)
