Wilten - the village in the middle of the city. Perhaps even one of the most charming districts in Innsbruck - but certainly a culinary hotspot. In this article, I take you to three very special places: from the cosy breakfast café to the colorful, inclusive Pippilotta to the authentic Asian restaurant. Three places, three concepts - and lots of enjoyment.

Cheers to the morning: how to have breakfast in the Heublume

A good day starts with a really good breakfast - so let's start this article with exactly that: Heublume! This charming breakfast restaurant opened its doors in March 2023 on Templstraße and has been serving up all kinds of delicacies ever since. If you're thinking: "Wow, another breakfast place", I'd like to say: Yes! Firstly, breakfast is the most important meal of the day - and you can never have enough choice. Secondly, the Heublume offers specialties that you have never seen before. Or have you ever Pancake-Raclette ever eaten? I certainly never have!

Slowfood deluxe: Raclette with a difference

Why do people eat raclette? One of the main reasons - apart from the ease of preparation - is the conviviality. It takes time, you sit together, you can't just devour everything in a hurry, but wait until the next piece of meat - or in our case the next pancake - is ready. You automatically take your time - not just for eating, but also for talking! I went to Heublume with my mom (and my dog) and really enjoyed the quiet time. The pancakes were delicious. We opted for the sweet version with curd yogurt cream, fresh apple and banana as well as jam, honey and Nutella. If you prefer savory, you'll also get your money's worth with Tyrolean bacon and turkey ham, smoked salmon, cheese, herb horseradish spread and fresh tomatoes.

Breakfast for every taste

Of course, the popular breakfast classics should not be missing from the menu. There are scrambled eggs in every conceivable variation (in Austrian: Eierspeise) - served with a slice of crispy crusty bread. Or how about a delicious muesli? Perhaps a creamy Bircher muesli or a variation with fresh fruit. Brioche buns are a real highlight - golden brown on the outside, wonderfully fluffy on the inside. They are also available in different versions: savory with fried egg, bacon and mountain cheese, sweet with curd cheese and vanilla cream, apricot jam and fresh fruit - or really extravagant with lime-chili beef. There is something for every taste. If you're a little hungrier, treat yourself to a tarte flambée: homemade and fresh from the oven, served with BBQ or aioli sauce.

Hao Wei Dao - Cantonese cuisine in Wilten

If you ask my husband what his favorite food is, the answer is sure to be Asian! So he was thrilled when I suggested he try out the new Chinese restaurant in Wilten Hao Wei Dao in Wilten. The specialty of the house: dim sum. To be honest, I had no idea what that actually was - and if you feel the same way, I'll spare you the ChatGPT questions: dim sum is the name given to a variety of small, usually steamed or deep-fried snacks. They originate from Cantonese, i.e. southern Chinese cuisine. Literally translated, the term means "to touch the heart".

Small bites, big taste

I think: With such an importance, it was natural for us to order dim sum - at least as a starter. And what can I say? They absolutely lived up to their name. They did take a while to prepare, but we knew that beforehand - our friendly waiter had pointed this out to us. It was definitely worth the wait. As a vegetarian, I didn't have too much choice - there is only one meatless dim sum option. But that wasn't a problem. The vegetarian dumplings with Asian water spinach, chopped tofu, glass noodles and shiitake mushrooms were excellent. When it comes to main courses, vegetarians and vegans have far more options - and I can promise you: It just tastes great! Sometimes I'm even really glad that a smaller selection makes my decision easier. So, if you fancy some really good Asian cuisine - head to Hao Wei Dao!

Pippilotta - the colorful gourmet restaurant in Wilten

Last but not least: Finally, I would like to introduce you to a very special gourmet restaurant - the Pippilotta. A toque stands for culinary excellence in the Gault-Millau style. It signals creative cuisine at a high level and is considered a real seal of quality in Austria. The Pippilotta has also earned a Falstaff fork (=award from the gourmet magazine Falstaff) - further proof of the quality on offer here. But this restaurant can do much more than "just" excellent cooking.

Creating prospects: Training with purpose and a future

The Pippilotta has existed in this form for around three years. A central component of the concept is the training of people with disabilities - in accordance with the National Qualifications Framework (NQF). This makes skills and competencies visible and comprehensible - also for future employers.
"Pippilotta has a mission. It wants to make the world a little better and strengthen equal opportunities and justice for people. That's why Pippilotta's menu includes a colorful mix of culinary highlights as well as qualified training. We work to ensure that all our participants find a place in the job market. Our motto is: anything is possible," explains Nadja Geisler, Head of Pippilotta.
It's about visibility, self-determination and showing what you can do: Everyone can do something - in their own way.

Friendly people, delicious food, cool drinks - mega spirit

The Pippilotta has long since made a name for itself in Innsbruck's gastronomic scene. Particularly popular are the Sunday brunch (be sure to book!) and business lunches during the week and now also the after-work and evening menu. But it's also the perfect place for celebrations - whether birthdays, christenings or retirements. And if you prefer to celebrate at home or at another location, you can simply order catering from Pippilotta. It's worth taking a look at the menu - I bet your mouth is watering just reading it. To conclude, Nadja Geisler sums it up once again: "Guests should come because our participants are friendly, we have a great spirit - and of course because the food is excellent and we serve cool drinks."

Three very different restaurants - but they have one thing in common: they are all worth a visit. So let's go to Wilten - it's worth it!
