The ÖAV climbing garden: Climbing for families and beginners
In the far west of Innsbruck, just before Zirl, is the ÖAV climbing garden. Here you can perfectly learn or improve rock climbing. More difficult routes also provide challenges here.
After an idyllic approach of 5 to 10 minutes you reach the first climbing rock.
Approach to the PES climbing garden with Simon (6) and Anna (8).
This lower rock offers three routes in the right part of the Schleicherplatte. Equipped with six carabiners, the kids and beginners can make their first attempts at lead climbing.
Simon fully relaxed in the lead climb. Cool thing, super done!
At the end of the routes is NOT a carabiner, but a RING. Here you can practice using the tape loop, but you don’t have to, because the last express is accessible via a climb.
The lower sector is ideal to learn how to use the material.
If you follow the path to the right, you will reach the main sector with its left or right part in five minutes. 47 routes are divided between 3a and 7b. Of these, 25 routes are 1st pitch and 22 routes are 2nd pitch. Well-structured pleasure tours for beginners and children are to be discovered! New carabiners after the 1st pitch make it possible to climb the routes without having to handle the sling.
Anna climbs the 20 meter long route “Via Sebastian” (4a). A fantastic tour for children and beginners!
At the foot of the rock you can hang out perfectly and recover from the efforts in the shade. Attention: The wall faces south! In summer climb either early or late afternoon, but better prefer cooler days. Do not forget sunscreen!

The partly terraced belays are conditionally family-friendly.
On the way to the PES climbing garden, you pass a sign with the signpost “Schleicherplatte”. If you follow this to the left, you will reach seven routes with heights of around 15 meters. Demanding slab climbing between 6a+ and 6c are characteristic for this sector.

The Jungle Book – Climbing for advanced and professionals
The once dense deciduous forest and a huge curtain of ivy reminded of Mogli and the Jungle Book – the name for the climbing garden was born. Technically demanding climbs on ledges characterize the area.
