Autumn in Innsbruck is wonderful. The nearby nature shines in the most beautiful warm colors and invites you to dive into it - for me as a photographer also a very special time full of motifs. In this blog I will show you the most beautiful tours for which you should definitely pack your camera or at least your smartphone.

Many of the tours can also be reached perfectly by public transport.

The small mountain lake

Above Grinzens and the Senderstal valley you will find a small but very photogenic mountain lake. The water level varies every year, but in autumn I find this beautiful place particularly charming.

The short but very scenic hike takes us to Salfeinser See.

The starting point is the village of Grinzens. You can reach it very comfortably with the post bus from Innsbruck. The bus runs every 15 minutes.

From Grinzens, take the path in the direction of Kemater Alm in the Senderstal valley. Halfway there, you will pass a parking lot (you could also drive up to here and pay a toll). From the parking lot you cross the stream and walk on the forest road, which is well signposted, to the Salfeinser Alm. From here, the ascent to the lake is via a path.

The special thing about Salfeinser See is that you have the beautiful Kalkkögel as a backdrop. These are reflected breathtakingly in the small mountain lake when there is no wind. A place to take great photos or just relax.

If you want to make a larger tour, I recommend the path to the Kemater Alm with ascent to the Schaflegerkogel. From there you go over the ridge and three other peaks to the Salfeinser See.

Autumn in the Axamer Lizum

Not far from Innsbruck is the Axamer Lizum. It is easily accessible by car in a short time. In autumn, I particularly enjoy hiking in the Lizum. The goal of this tour are three peaks, and on one we will experience the setting autumn sun.

From the parking lot of the Axamer Lizum we go via the Schafalm and the Sunnalm up to the Hoadl. From here you have a wonderful view of the Kalkkögel.

From Hoadl we head to our sunset destination, the summit of Pleisen. The beautiful short path over the ridge presents itself in wonderful autumnal colors. Arrived at the Pleisen summit with the beautiful cross, you can wonderfully relax and wait for the sunset.

After the experienced sunset, it is not far and not difficult to continue to the summit of the Axamer Kögele. This is so close that you can also take or photograph the great atmosphere there. From the Axamer Kögele you then take the path in the direction of the Schafalm and the valley. Please be sure to take a headlamp, because you will be in the dark shortly before the valley.

Burning larches

When the larches "burn", then you should definitely look at the Mieminger Plateau. The large larch population there makes the whole region shine in fiery red colors in late autumn. The many walks across the fields and through the larch forests offer numerous opportunities for great photos. Let's let pictures speak and a video I made.

The plateau can be reached hourly by post bus from Innsbruck.

Swiss stone pine path

The Zirbenweg between the Glungezer and the Patscherkofel is probably one of the most beautiful hiking trails in Austria. Although it is long, it is not really strenuous, as you hardly gain any altitude. Besides the alpine rose blossom, especially the autumn is recommended for a hike. I usually combine the tour with a sunset on one of the peaks above the trail. From Innsbruck, the Patscherkofelbahn is well connected with the J line. To Tulfes to the valley station of the Glungezer you come with the post bus.

The starting point is one of the two mountain stations of the cable cars of Glungezer or Patscherkofel. There is a combination ticket for a Zirbenweg hike.

The trail is about seven kilometers long. Summit experiences are particularly beautiful on the Viggarspitze or the Neunerspitze. You can stop for a bite to eat at the Tulfein-Alm on the Glungezer, at Boscheben or at the Patscher Alm on the Patscherkofel. Please note that a sunset tour requires a headlamp for the way back and that you do it on a Thursday: On Thursdays, the Patscherkofel cable car is in operation until 11 p.m. in the course of the evening trips.

Ehnbachklamm and Zirler Mähder

The Ehnbachklamm gorge in Zirl is beautiful. Due to the high proportion of deciduous trees in the gorge, it is also ideal for a beautiful hike in autumn. After you have crossed the beautiful gorge, the breathtaking Zirl meadows full of burning larches await you in autumn.

The best way to get to Zirl is by post bus.

The entrance to the gorge is well signposted. After crossing the gorge, walk along the path in the direction of the Neue Magdeburger Hütte until you reach the Zirler Mähder.

The tour can also be easily reached with the S-Bahn to Hochzirl and from there hike to the Zirler Mähdern and cross the gorge down to Zirl.

A detailed description of the tour you get in my other blog.

I hope you have a great weather, and wish you all the time good light in your photo autumn tours around our beautiful state capital.
