From 1942 onwards, National Socialists of Austrian origin played a key role in the murder of more than one and a half million people in the “General Government” in occupied Poland, particularly in the extermination camps at Bełżec, Sobibór and Treblinka. The former Gauleiter of Vienna, Odilo Globocnik, directed “Operation Reinhardt” from Lublin. Irmfried Eberl from Bregenz – who had studied medicine in Innsbruck – was the first commandant of the Treblinka extermination camp. He was succeeded by Franz Stangl, who came from Altmünster on Lake Traunsee and had demonstrated his expertise in mass murder at Sobibór. On the podium, experts will discuss these criminals: Michael Gehler, Peter Pirker, Johannes Sachslehner and Anders Otte Stensager. The evening will be moderated by Ingrid Böhler.
