Explore the Innsbruck Region by Season

Innsbruck is a genuine year-round destination. Every part of the year brings its own version of the region: bright spring meadows, warm summer hikes, golden fall color, and deep winter glow

Winterwandern Knappenweg im Kühtai

Winter

Ski slopes reach right down to the city limits; the toboggan run at Rangger Köpfl winds over almost five miles, and the Christmas markets fill the city with sparkling light.
Hofgarten Innsbruck

Spring

Glacier skiing is still possible up high, while the hiking trails below the snowline are already open and the city's cultural calendar is in full swing – spring is a busy season in the region
Maria-Theresien-Straße

Summer

Escape the heat at the Drei-Seen-Runde (Three Lakes Circuit), a high alpine loop past two mountain lakes and a reservoir, or follow the Ehnbach gorge as it carves through rock.

Autumn

Watch the "burning larches" of the Mieming Plateau turn the hillsides gold, then slow down in a sauna, steam bath, or mountain-view pool

Practical Information

A few essential things to know before your trip:

  • Currency: The euro (€) is the official currency. Credit and debit cards, including contactless, are accepted almost everywhere.
  • Time zone: Central European Time (CET or UTC+1) in winter, Central European Summer Time (CEST or UTC+2) during daylight saving time.
  • Power outlets: Type F power plugs and sockets (also compatible with Type C and E), 230V standard voltage at 50 Hz frequency. You will need a plug adapter, along with a voltage converter for any 120V-only devices.
  • Wi-Fi: Available throughout hotels, cafés, and public spaces in the city and surrounding towns and villages.
  • Weather: Plan for variable alpine weather all year round and check out the seasonal guide above for what to expect and pack.
  • Water: Straight from alpine springs, the region's high-quality drinking water flows through more than 150 public fountains – so a refillable bottle is all you need.
