'Fearless Bruisers': Full-contact sport on roller skates
Learn more
We’ll be celebrating our anniversary at the Landessportzentrum Innsbruck. Over two days, there will be seven roller derby matches featuring teams from Austria, Germany and the Czech Republic, a mixed scrimmage (friendly match) with young players, and a half-time show by the Tierleaders, Innsbruck’s cheerleading crew championing diversity and equality. Who we are: In 2016, we started out with a handful of founders and the project ‘Roller Derby Innsbruck – Feminism on Wheels’. Today, we have around 60 active members and are part of a large international roller derby community. On the track, this means: physical commitment, tactics, speed and plenty of adrenaline. Beyond that, it’s about shaping sport ourselves – beyond rigid role models, pressure to perform and fixed ideas about who can take part in sport. DIY, self-organisation, mutual support and queer-feminist structures remain central to what defines the Fearless Bruisers to this day. We are creating a sport in which racism, transphobia, homophobia, sexism and other forms of discrimination are simply not tolerated.
