An alpine-urban ridge hike
Hoadl gondola lift directly at the car park takes you quickly and easily up to the sunny Hoadl plateau and the start of this hike. The trail starts to the right of the Hoadl Haus mountain restaurant (at the top of the double chair lift) and first leads downhill along the ski run before turning left at the signpost to follow the trail to Pleisenjöchl at 2,190 m. From there, a gentle ascent continues to the Pleisenkreuz cross at 2,236 m and then onwards to Axam's local mountain, the Axamer Kögele, at an altitude of 2,097 m (walking time approx. 1 ¼ hours). From there, you get wonderful views of the western mountain plateau, the Inn Valley, the city of Innsbruck, the Nordkette mountain range and the Zugspitze.
For the hike back, you can either follow the same route or take one of several other options, for example:
1: Follow the trail downhill towards the valley from Axamer Kögele until you come to the first turnoff - take the trail down towards Pleisen - below the lift station, follow the signs to bypass the Pleisen summit on the eastern side. After walking for about 15 minutes, you will meet the trail that runs between Pleisenjöchl and Pleisen.
2: From Axamer Kögele, it is also possible to hike down the sometimes very steep "Axamer Skiabfahrt" ski run, which takes you down to the village of Axams in about 1½ to 1¾ hours. (approx: 4.2 km)
