From the starting point, walk past the Gasthaus Arzkasten guesthouse and turn right to continue along a wide forest road. After a short walk, turn left onto a wide, flat path. This soon narrows to become a hiking trail and leads up through the forest, quite steeply at first. The route keeps crossing the stream and passes several small springs. Once you get to the alpine pastures, it is only a short walk to the Marienbergalm mountain hut. For the return hike, you can either double back along the same route or take the forest road.
