This beautiful mountain hike starts at the top of the Nordkettenbahnen lifts, which means you can enjoy the journey up the mountain in comfort. The route follows a scenic high-altitude trail that leads towards Achselbodenhütte mountain hut and later climbs steeply up to the "Brandjochkreuz" summit cross on Brandjoch peak. The peak is located before the Vorderes Brandjoch and offers magnificent views of the Inn Valley, the city of Innsbruck below and the Wipp Valley stretching off into the distance.
Ascent:
From the Seegrube, follow the path towards Aspach Hut and Magdeburg Hut via the Grubegg and the Julius Prock Trail. At the junction to the Achselboden Hut, keep right and follow the signs for “Brandjochboden”. An ascending trail through mountain pines leads to the Brandjochboden, from where a steep ascent continues to the Brandjoch Cross (2268 m).
Descent:
Return along the same path to the junction on the high trail, then descend to the right to the Achselboden Hut. Continue to the Höttinger Alm and from there follow the trail towards Hungerburg through the Höttinger Graben and down the ski slope, passing the Umbrüggler Alm back to Hungerburg.
