Join TLT’s principal conductor Gerrit Prießnitz, soprano Julia Grüter and the TSOI in welcoming in the New Year. Look forward to a programme featuring melodies from the Viennese Classical period, the Romantic era and operetta, which will both inspire you to dream and put you in the mood for champagne.
Ludwig van Beethoven’s Egmont Overture sets a festive atmosphere and adds a touch of drama at the start of the concert. In 2027, the music world will commemorate the 200th anniversary of this great composer’s death.
Julia Grüter then delves into the world of a wide variety of arias by Beethoven, Dvořák, Strauss and Lehár, all revolving around the dream of romantic happiness. The famous ‘Song to the Moon’ from Antonín Dvořák’s opera Rusalka is considered one of the most atmospheric arias of the Romantic era. Musically of enchanting beauty, it transports the listener to a magical, dreamlike world of sound, full of longing for love and fulfilment. Dvořák’s Slavonic Dances, in turn, are characterised by a dancing zest for life. In the second half of the concert, the unmistakable charm of Viennese operetta unfolds with works by Johann Strauss and Franz Lehár: alongside an absolute New Year’s classic – the lively Tritsch-Tratsch Polka – the programme includes, among other pieces, the Csárdás from Johann Strauss’s operetta Die Fledermaus, in which wistful dreams and dance-like rhythms come together.
