Innsbruck’s Christmas markets
From 15 November 2017 until 6 January 2018
Christmas magic in the old town
Experience the traditional, romantic and festive Christmas atmosphere of Innsbruck’s old town. The colourful Christmas market stalls are nestled between attractive medieval buildings and the Golden Roof.
From 15 November to 23 December 2017.
Enjoy the hustle and bustle of the Christmas market with a mug of mulled wine or one of the hot punch specialties. The 70 market stalls are a treasure trove for Christmas tree decorations, handicrafts, woollen goods and souvenirs. A viewing platform offers wonderful views over the roofs of the stalls. Austrian Turmbläser (brass brands) play traditional Christmas music from the Golden Roof and give the market a truly special feel. It’s also worth taking a wander down Kiebachgasse, the street that runs parallel to Erzherzog-Friedrich-Straße.
In December, the street is transformed into a fairy tale lane: numerous characters from famous fairy tales can be seen on the buildings’ façades, bay windows and gables.
The Christmas market in the old town is open daily from 11 am to 9 pm. Shops in the Old Town close at 8 pm.
Light and modern. Maria Theresien Street:
The Christmas market on Maria-Theresien-Straße is surrounded by a sparkling sea of modern Christmas lights. A special eye-catcher: the illuminated mountain crystal that towers up above the market and watches over the stalls.
From 25 November 2017 to 6 January 2018.
Maria Theresien Street is lined by trees covered in tiny, sparkling lights and is home to approx. 30 market stalls that offer winter cuisine and gift ideas until Epiphany on 6 January. So if you enjoy the odd mug of punch after Christmas, this is the market for you. Open daily from 11 am to 9 pm. Stalls close at 8 pm. Exceptions: Stalls are open from 11 am to 3 pm on 24 December. The market is closed on 25 December.
Advent at the market square
Perfect for families with children: the “Marktplatz” market square by the River Inn is home to a charming Christmas market with a Tyrolean village feel. The market also includes a varied children’s programme during the festive season.
From 15 November to 23 December 2017.
Attractions for children include pony rides, a petting zoo, puppet shows and storytelling. The Christmas market is even home to a traditional carousel with lovingly carved figures that carry young riders round and round. A 14-metre-high crystal tree sparkles above the square and the 60 stalls are filled with colourful gifts, handicrafts and delicious delights.
Daily from 11 am to 9 pm.
Christmas atmosphere at Hungerburg
For the best views of wintery Innsbruck, visit the Panorama Christmas Market at Hungerburg. It’s easy to get there – simply take the Nordkettenbahnen funicular from the Congress lift station in the city centre.
