Forecast

Before the sun can do its job, it has to chase away the misty remnants of the humid air which arrived here last night. We can then look forward to a pleasant day.

Tendency

The ideal holiday weather will become even more stable during the following days. The risk of showers will be low during the next few days and the weather will remain bright.

Innsbruck’s Christmas markets

From 15 November 2018 until 6 January 2019

Christmas magic in the old town

Experience the traditional, romantic and festive Christmas atmosphere of Innsbruck’s old town. The colourful Christmas market stalls are nestled between attractive medieval buildings and the Golden Roof.

From 15 November to 23 December 2018.

More information >

Enjoy the hustle and bustle of the Christmas market with a mug of mulled wine or one of the hot punch specialties. The 70 market stalls are a treasure trove for Christmas tree decorations, handicrafts, woollen goods and souvenirs. A viewing platform offers wonderful views over the roofs of the stalls. Austrian Turmbläser (brass brands) play traditional Christmas music from the Golden Roof and give the market a truly special feel. It’s also worth taking a wander down Kiebachgasse, the street that runs parallel to Erzherzog-Friedrich-Straße.

In December, the street is transformed into a fairy tale lane: numerous characters from famous fairy tales can be seen on the buildings’ façades, bay windows and gables.

The Christmas market in the old town is open daily from 11 am to 9 pm. Shops in the Old Town close at 8.00 pm.

NEW in 2018: the Kaiserweihnacht am Bergisel

The "Kaiserweihnacht" (Emperor's Christmas) at Bergisel is a very special Christmas market in Innsbruck. Focus is primarily on products and traditions that are genuine and traditional, Tyrolean and regional.

More information >

The partners and exhibitors are all distinguished by tradition, craftsmanship, art, regional ties and high quality.

Great importance is placed on getting back to the meaning of Christmas as it once was, with focus moving away from the commercial side of the holiday season and instead being built around tranquillity and slowing down. This is the thought behind the daily "prologue" by the Christkind, as well as the readings and workshops offered for both adults and children.

The mulled wine served at the Kaiserweihnacht has been "certified" by Austria's leading sommelier and European Champagne Ambassador – Suwi Zlatic – to ensure it meets our high quality standards. At the Kaiserweihnacht, you won’t be served some ready-made mixture. The mulled wine is made according to the purity law: 95% wine, 5% water, cinnamon bark and cloves. No more and no less. In addition, the best wine by Ferdinand Zweiger is used as the base. Of course, a non-alcoholic alternative is also available.

The Kaiserweihnacht opens every weekend during Advent from 11 am, Friday to Sunday.
